President Donald Trump wants to merge the federal departments of Labor and Education in what would be the biggest bureaucratic shake-up in recent history, published reports said Wednesday.

Budget director Mick Mulvaney has been working on the proposed consolidation — which would need congressional approval — for more than a year, sources told Politico.

The combined agency would be called the Department of Education and the Workforce, Education Week reported.

This proposal would face an uphill political battle. Republicans have been seeking to eliminate the Department of Education for years without much success.

There may not be a political consensus to get this done because the Republican Party is inundated with traitors. But by combining the two, they may be able to starve and limit the reach of both depts.

Abolish the DoE. I don't like the idea of the government educating our kids.

It's definitely something we have never come up with on this board. Not a big fan of forced government education, but what happens if we follow the logic?

1. Educrats don't get to decide what kids need to know (i.e. political correctness, sexual perversion, etc). The vision will be guided by what kids need for immediate employment.
2. The idea of automatic college will go away. Students will likely have access to vocational training as part of the high school education.
3. Maybe local communities will have more say about what is taught in their schools, or even if they want to have them. It could be that large homeschooling communities spring up around organic farms or some kind of business.

The rest of the story can be less welfare, less money needed for law enforcement in schools, more active minds and bodies and less violence.
