President Trump (https://www.yahoo.com/news/topics/president-trump) suggested a dramatic reordering of the global order as he departed for a G-7 summit on Friday morning. Speaking to reporters before boarding Marine One to head to the meeting in Canada, Trump suggested that Russia be allowed back into the group of the world’s top economic powers, which currently includes the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom. Russia was previously a participant in the group, which was known as the G-8 or Group of Eight, but was ejected in 2014 after its invasion and annexation of Crimea, a province of Ukraine.

“Russia should be in this meeting. Why are we having a meeting without Russia being in the meeting? And I would recommend — and it’s up to them — but Russia should be in the meeting. It should be a part of it,” Trump said, adding, “You know, whether you like it or not — and it may not be politically correct — but we have a world to run and, in the G-7, which used to be the G-8, they threw Russia out. They should let Russia back in because we should have Russia at the negotiating table.”

President Donald Trump doubled down Saturday on his earlier calls for Russia to re-join the G7.
"It has been discussed — some people like the idea of bringing Russia back in," Trump told reporters in Quebec, Canada during the annual G7 summit. "This used to be the G8, not the G7, and something happened a while ago where Russia is no longer in."

"I think it would be good for the world, I think it would be good for Russia, I think it would be good for the United States," Trump said. "I think the G8 would be better, I think having Russia back in would be a positive thing. We're looking for peace in the world, we're not looking to play games."

Why would the 8th country be Russia?

There are 7 now so if they let Russia back in they would be the 8th.

Ssee how simple that is.

It's the largest economies in the world.

Russia isn't #8 anymore.

They are certainly among the top 8 most powerful and important countries and they used to be a member, they shouldn't have been kicked out and DJTvsg is right to say they should be let back in.

It's the largest economies in the world.

Russia isn't #8 anymore.

It was originally the biggest industrialized nations.

IMF has Russia #11, World Bank has Russia #12 and United Nations has them #13. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)

IMF list:
1) United States $20.4 trillion GDP
2) China
3) Japan
4) Germany
5) United Kingdom
6) France
7) India
8) Italy
9) Brazil
10) Canada
11) Russia $1.7 trillion GDP

World Bank adds North Korea ahead of Russia and the UN list puts Australia ahead of them too. Spain and Mexico follow.

Russia was kicked out for invading Ukraine and annexing Crimea. Russia was invited to join when Boris Yeltsin was president.

Not anymore or China would be a member.

That's a great point. They should be the eighth now that they've pushed Russia out.

Trump colludes with Russia. He is Putin's puppet. Need to keep the word Russia front and center in US political theatre.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte echoed President Trump (http://thehill.com/people/donald-trump)'s calls for Russia to be reinstated into the Group of Seven (G-7) on Friday, breaking with the European Union’s stance on the issue.
Conte, who assumed office at the beginning of the month, took to Twitter on Friday to voice his agreement with Trump's position.
“Russia should return to the G-8. It is in everyone's interest,” he wrote.
