Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted
A group of citizen election integrity activists is concerned. After speaking with election officials in Cuyahoga and Franklin Counties in Ohio, and the office of Secretary of State Jon Husted (https://www.sos.state.oh.us/secretary-husted-office/contact-our-office/), it is clear there is something these officials do not want the public to see in the upcoming primary on Tuesday and subsequent elections.
The activists are suing to force (http://www.prweb.com/releases/2018/05/prweb15454597.htm) what might seem like a reasonable request which shouldn't have to be forced at all. Like many counties across the US, more than half in fact, Cuyahoga and Franklin use voter hand-marked, paper ballot vote-counting machines which take an instantaneous digital picture of each ballot as it is fed into the machine. The machine's electronics then counts the votes.
The ballot pictures - known as digital images - are meant to serve as an easy way to do preliminary audits (https://www.alternet.org/election-03918/breakthrough-technology-will-count-election-results-never) of vote counts, without having to access the paper ballots.
