President Donald Trump seemed to float a new idea about border control during at a tax reform roundtable in Ohio. The President was in the midst of criticizing Democrats during a riff about border security when he slipped in the idea that people might "have to think about closing up the country."
"They don't want the wall, but we're going to get the wall, even if we have to think about closing up the country for a while," Trump said. "We're going to get the wall. We have no choice. We have absolutely no choice. And we're going to get tremendous security in our country."
Trump then mentioned the notion a second time, saying, "And we may have to close up our country to get this straight, because we either have a country or we don't. And you can't allow people to pour into our country the way they're doing."

He said the same thing a couple weeks ago. http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?521745-Trump-Threatens-To-%91Close-Down-The-Country%92-If-Border-Wall-Doesn%92t-Get-Funding

Soonest it could happen is September (when the current budget resolution runs out)- just in time for the fall elections.

"Comfortable or not, travelers should probably get used to the technology. President Trump signed an executive action last year urging the government to speed up the airport use of biometric tracking, and CBP hopes to have face scanners installed at all the nation's airports in four years."

Any questions?

Tourism to the US brings in $187 billion a year (https://www.thedailymeal.com/travel/trump-slump-majorly-affecting-united-states-international-tourism). The idea of closing America to foreigners "for a while" is insane.

its scary thinking that America is shutting down, but that's what consumer confidence looks like right now. Trumps no longer singing praises of the stock market and how much bigger its going to get, he is just talking about closing up shop. I wonder if there is monetary manipulation going on with the fed along with all of this trade war stuff Trump has started.

Country shutdown would mean military shutdown also, won't that be highly unpatriotic?

Vital need of Military spending continuation was cited as the main reason for not shutting down massive enhanced budget defecit few months ago.

0, I don't trust anything Trump says, his actions are the only thing you can judge by.

Good. Of course that begs the question, which measures to "close the country" count as "police state" and which do not?

I'm sure it can be done voluntarily, no need to get the government involved.

Let people along the border enforce no trespassing? Yes that can be done voluntarily, provided that all border landowners, including all coastal landowners, agree. Not sure if you'd get volunteers all the way up the California and New England coasts though.

Those that violate the rights of the citizens.

and which do not?
Those that simply limit who is allowed to enter the country and/or naturalize.

So as a citizen do I have the right to enter and leave the country without a passport? Do I have the right to get a job without a government issue ID?

I don't think other countries will let you in without one.

As a child we went to Mexico and came back and I had no ID at all. As an adult we took our children to Canada and they didn't have passports. We were able to drive across but we couldn't fly in. I'm pretty sure that now we can't do that. So that's a right that as a citizen I once had but now do not. Oh and my wife at the time didn't have her passport either. That's why we had to drive across. Her renewal hadn't gone through yet.

Yes.

So no to e-verify? Good.

Which country is demanding a passport of you?
We used to have a deal with Mexico and Canada for passportless travel but we had to end it because Mexicans were abusing it.

We went to Canada without a passport. If I recall, they checked Mr A's ID (driver's license) when we drove back but they didn't check mine and the kids were babies.

And since immigrants are allegedly abusing student visas......face scanning cameras at the airport. At least that's the excuse.

I don't know enough about that, the US shouldn't demand a passport from our citizens returning from abroad if they manage their trip without one.

But that violates our citizens' rights, there are other ways to deal with such problems.

Canada is an extremely family-friendly country, and many families with small children cross the border on vacation every year. To make it easier, U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 15 or younger with parental consent are allowed to cross the borders at land and sea entry points with certified copies of their birth certificates rather than passports.
NEXUS CardVisitors of all ages arriving in Canada by air require a passport or passport equivalent (https://www.tripsavvy.com/necessary-canada-travel-documents-1481719), such as a NEXUS card (https://www.tripsavvy.com/nexus-canadian-border-crossing-card-1481716).

Note that anyone who has a NEXUS card or is considering applying for one can apply for NEXUS cards for his or her own children at no cost.
Group Travel for KidsU.S. and Canadian citizens ages 16 through 18 traveling between the U.S. and Canada with school, religious, cultural or athletic groups and under adult supervision will also be allowed to travel with only proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.

You can't. Got to have one of those "enhanced driver's licenses" at a minimum. RealID.

I think boarder states have a special DL you can get but it's only good for driving across the border.

I use to paddle my canoe up into Canada through the Minnesota Boundary Waters to pick up some Injun artifacts to take back for sale. No ID required, but best to do it at night.

He really shouldn't go wandering off into the woods at night by himself. That Wendigo has had a taste of his sweet tender meat and I doubt he'll be able to escape her twice.

Edited to add...

He should also stay out of Asia until he settles up with bangkokbestdining

Close the border to only the illegal Mexicans . . . and only for "Entrada"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deFDXYdF2g4

We don't want arse prints on that new border wall door marked "Salida" for the path to Mexico reassignment.
