Another company, this one among the largest ammunition makers in America, is distancing itself from firearms following the massacre at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High in February.Vista Outdoor Inc. has been pressured for months by retailers that sell its other goods like Bell bicycle helmets and CamelBak water carriers, to stop manufacturing firearms.
The Utah company said Tuesday that it will be seeking buyers for its firearms manufacturing business, and will focus on products for outdoor enthusiasts. It will continue to sell ammunition, its biggest core businesses.

Vista last year had revenue of $2.5 billion. It is looking for buyers for its Savage and Stevens firearms brands, and other product lines not related to firearms.

Vista Outdoor is sitting at $14.01 down 3.78 percent today with a 52 week high of $25.07.

Here's to hoping they fall a couple more points.

One simple way you can vote with your dollars is to purchase Hornady Ammunition rather than Federal Premium or CCI.

You know, I have to admit that's what I said as well.

Turns out they own Federal Premium Ammunition, Savage Arms, Stevens, Bushnell, Hoppe's, CCI, Speer, CamelBak, Weaver, American Eagle, Blackhawk, Bell and a ton of other firearm accessory and camping accessory manufacturers. You probably own some of their shit.

That said, they are down 1.27 percent from their open, hitting $13.18.

The reason was apparently due to some pressure from retailers, though Vista Outdoor has distanced that from being the culprit and it more appears to be the uncertainty of 'Modern Sporting Rifles' going forward with regards to legislation.

The portion of their portfolio that is firearms showed growth but the industry as a whole has slowed since Trump took office. Vista Outdoor sales were down 9% last year which they attributed to lowered ammunition prices due to the market as well as hydration categories being under-performing.

Savage isn't necessarily as popular as Smith & Wesson or Ruger (etc.) but they are popular as an affordable buy in for a cheap, pretty accurate, hunting rifle. Stevens is popular as an affordable buy in for simple home defense shotguns and low end hunting/sport shotguns.

AR-15s, if I had to take an educated guess, were closer to 0% than 10% of their annual firearms sales (though that number is a guesstimation based on my experience with firearms).

Hopefully someone purchases Savage and renames it "Patriot Firearms" and doubles down on providing a low end buy in option for hunting rifles, shotguns, and so called MSRs.

I would be less hostile towards their parent company as a whole if it were unequivocal that the reason they are ceasing firearms sales is due to not seeing the necessary growth of that market vs. kowtowing to the anti-gun busy bodies.

And all that said, they are down some 15% since the announcement.
