Your meeting is great but you don't talk about anything of importance.
During the hearing the candidate flabs the only important question you have for him.
You make up a story where after the questioning you talk to the candidate again and this time he nails the question and you vote yes.

The question that Pompeo flubbed was whether the President has authorization to use military force in foreign countries without congressional approval. That was no doubt an important question that got flubbed, but it wasn't the "only important question", nor was it the issue they spoke about in the subsequent meeting.

The issue that was spoken about at the subsequent meeting was based on another set of topics that Rand brought up during the hearing that included whether the Iraq war was a mistake, and whether he thought there was a military solution in Afghanistan and Syria.
