...

Jim Guest (the Missouri State Congressman who gave an introductory speech for Ron Paul at the event) was asked (beforehand) to look into why the local media wasn't covering the event, his contacts (at the stations?) reported back that the FCC had contacted the stations and told them in no uncertain terms not to give coverage to Ron Paul's event. This isn't some wild conspiracy that was on the rumor mill at the event. I was standing right next to Congressman Jim Guest while he was explaining this to someone who had asked him why the major media wasn't here covering Ron Paul.

...

Is anyone else able to back this up? And aside from being controlled/manipulated for political reasons, would the FCC have any justification for doing this if it were true?

Wow... that's ... interesting. Coupled with a Giuliani / McCain skip out on the ITR thing, and it starts to look ... interestinger.

Ron Paul would gut the FCC. No surprise.

well i'd say anyone that has the resources to check on this should. if that conversation could be verified, that would be HUGE.

As huge as a scandal against the people who control the airwaves could be.

Which is uh, not... that huge.

Maybe the FCC was responding to a credible threat of a wardrobe malfunction?

Hence the most common way "conspiracy theories" are created when established powers deal with contrarian up-starts: The people who work at the established powers don't want to loose their jobs and/or power. Unfortunately for Ron, there are a LOT of people who might loose their jobs if he gets into office.

It would be nice if this was verified and tossed before the Supreme Court, but I know that will never happen :(

No way. There has to be ONE media outlet or just one guy with scruples privy to this information who would buck that system. I can't believe the FCC would say that, because if it got out, it would be scandalous.

But I'm enough of a conspiracy theorist to say that it needs to be checked out. If that's true, blowback is too tame a term for the repercussions.

I emailed Jim Guest's office asking for verification/denial.

I don't want to flood him with the same request. Keep us posted when he responds, please.

Yes, please do.

It might be getting to the point that they are going to start calling us all terrorist because Dr. Paul and his supporters do not support the war or the beast the federal government has become.....

I wouldn't be surprised.

We might also ask the Iowa campaign coordinator, Joe Seehusen. joe@ronpaul2008.com

I'm still half asleep, so if someone else wants to be the one to do it, that would be good.

I just emailed campaign HQ about it.

I just emailed campaign HQ about it.

As busy as they are, that should get you a response in about 3 weeks. :)

If we really want an answer, someone is going to need to call them.

This may be related to election rules. Also, it may have been misheard and it may have been the FEC.

I willing to wait, if the answer comes straight from the top.

Why don't you just call HQ? You are going to get a much faster response that way.
