McConnell wants hemp removed from controlled substance list

The U.S. Senate's top leader said Monday he wants to bring hemp production back into the national mainstream by removing it from the list of controlled substances.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told a group of hemp advocates in his home state of Kentucky that he will introduce legislation to legalize the crop as an agricultural commodity. The versatile crop has been grown on an experimental basis in a number of states in recent years.

"It's now time to take the final step and make this a legal crop," McConnell said.

Kentucky has been at the forefront of hemp's comeback. Kentucky agriculture officials recently approved about 12,000 acres to be grown in the state this year, and 57 Kentucky processors are turning the raw product into a multitude of products.

What changed?
Why didn't he do this before?

I'll take anything I can get but he gets no credit in my book.

McConnell has actually supported this issue for quite awhile.

Legislation that would legalize hemp as an agricultural product is getting fast-tracked through the Senate.
The bill, introduced last week by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (http://thehill.com/people/mitch-mcconnell) (R-Ky.), was placed on the Senate calendar on Monday.
The procedural move, known as "Rule 14," allows it to skip over the committee process, paving the way for the legislation to be brought up on the Senate floor. The move doesn't automatically guarantee that the bill will get a vote.
A spokesman for McConnell noted on Monday that they didn't have guidance or an announcement about if, or when, the bill would come up.

Mitch now tokes, it beats out munching down a bottle of TUMs tablets over 48 hours...
Sean Hannity was perhaps guilty of sexual harassment and forgot to say who his legal
beagle was "on air" and by a quirky coincidence Democrats are popping popcorn and
Swigging soda pop before the real fecal matter show starts inside the GOP. Trump has
such a knack for coming up with big & little scandals, the HuffPo people have lost count.
Still think the only thing keeping Trump in office is Mitch McConnell' nerve endings now
that Paul Ryan is giving up D.C gossip/politics temporarily to POTUS run or even get into
the governor's mansion. I think the Senate is a bigly uphill climb for him. When President
Pence asks for us to listen to his good word on weekly intervals, let's gather together and
pray here, as a group, for the fecal matter is a hurricane winds level manure storm totally.
It will get worse before it gets better, the ole GOP is about to split into THREE most hugely.
