ORLANDO, Fla. - Attorneys for Noor Salman (https://www.clickorlando.com/news/noor-salman-trial/who-is-noor-salman-widow-of-pulse-gunman-omar-mateen) are calling for a mistrial after they say new details from prosecutors reveal that Pulse gunman Omar Mateen (https://www.clickorlando.com/topic/Omar%20Mateen?entityid=3392708985&lang=en)'s father was an FBI (https://www.clickorlando.com/topic/FBI?entityid=43990&lang=en) source and is currently under a criminal investigation.

According to a motion filed by the defense, prosecutors sent an email on Saturday that stated Seddique Mateen was a confidential FBI source from 2005 through June 2016.

The email also stated that Seddique Mateen is being investigated for money transfers (https://media.clickorlando.com/document_dev/2018/03/26/047118559659_1522062632475_11841425_ver1.0.pdf) to Turkey and Pakistan after documents were found in his home on the day of the Pulse attack.

Salman's attorneys claim the late disclosure of the information prevented them from exploring whether or not Seddique Mateen knew of his son's plans to attack the nightclub on June 12, 2016.

The government email to Salman's attorneys also states that in 2012, "An anonymous tip indicated that Seddique Mateen was seeking to raise $50,000-$100,000 via a donation drive to contribute toward an attack against the government of Pakistan."

According to the motion, the defense states that the decision not to give Noor Salman (https://www.clickorlando.com/topic/Noor%20Salman?entityid=2211174866&lang=en) a polygraph was possibly "based on the FBI's desire to implicate Noor Salman, rather than Seddique Mateen in order to avoid scrutiny of its own ineptitude with the latter."

The defense also said Seddique's connection with the FBI played a role in a 2013 investigation into Omar Mateen for allegedly making threats against coworkers.

“Mateen’s father played a significant role in the FBI’s decision not to seek an indictment from the Justice Department for false statements to the FBI or obstruction of justice against Omar Mateen” during its 2013 investigation into his alleged threats," the motion stated.

Seddique Mateen previously made headlines when he attended a rally for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (https://www.clickorlando.com/news/politics/father-of-pulse-shooter-attends-clinton-rally-near-orlando) less than two months after the Pulse attack. He was positioned directly behind Clinton during her speech in Kissimmee.

"What went into your decision about going to this event right near Orlando, where this Pulse nightclub shooting happened?" Mateen was asked.

"I wish my son joined the Army and fought ISIS and destroyed ISIS," he said. "That would be much better."
A campaign official said Clinton did not know Mateen was at the rally.

From the OP: His work for the FBI included trying to raise $50-$100k for an attack against the Pakistani government.

Glen Greenwald was on Tucker Carlson. He said the entire "gay" angle was fake, made up by the FBI. Mateen had never been there before and picked it randomly at the last minute. Weren't there stories by supposed eyewitnesses that Mateen had been there before and was a regular? All fake? Hmmm.

All fake? Hmmm.

Sometimes it is hard to tell where the real and fake diverge.

Something really happened.. but it is not as it is being told.

Pulse gunman's widow found not guilty

Noor Salman, the widow of the gunman in Orlando's Pulse nightclub shooting, sobbed Friday as she was acquitted of providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization and of obstruction of justice in connection with her husband's 2016 rampage.

A visibly anxious Salman, wearing a dark suit, stood in federal court as the verdict was read. She wept and heaved as her attorneys -- one of them also crying -- embraced her. She looked back at her relatives.

"Thank you," she whispered to her attorneys.

An uncle, seated in court behind her, stifled a sob as other relatives held one another.

As Salman left the courtroom, she looked back at her family again, her eyes red and teary.

"Noor can go home now to her son, resume her life and try to pick up the pieces from two years in jail," Salman family spokeswoman Susan Clary said, adding that the relatives were grateful for the verdict.

Salman, 31, was arrested in January 2017, months after her husband, Omar Mateen, killed 49 people and injured more than 50 others when he opened fire at Pulse the previous June. Police responding to the attack killed Mateen.

Prosecutors said Salman aided Mateen ahead of his killing spree, then lied to the FBI in an attempt to thwart the investigation.

Jurors began deliberating Wednesday afternoon before returning with a verdict Friday morning.

Salman's relatives and Clary said they were sorry for the victims and survivors.
