A Republican state legislator, who will remain anonymous, has directly informed me that the NRA not only supported the gun control bill, but seemingly authored it and orchestrated its passage being rammed through in the last two weeks of the 2018 session (SB 7026 (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2018/07026)).

“We’re not saying this publicly” the legislator started.

Arsonist and fireman.

It's a great (protection) racket if you can pull it off.

Is that better or worse than lawyer and legislator?

The thin end of the wedge:

Florida deputies confiscated an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle from an Army veteran on Thursday, and the seizure was the first of its kind under the state’s new gun control law enacted following the Parkland school shooting.
Jerron Smith, 31, of Deerfield Beach, is the first person to be arrested for running afoul of the new law since it went on the books March 9, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
A spokeswoman for the office said a SWAT team went to Smith’s home Thursday and seized the AR-15 when he refused to surrender it voluntarily. The officers also seized a .22 caliber rifle he owned, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a bump stock and numerous other weapon-related items.
The new gun regulations signed into law raise the age in Florida to buy a rifle to 21 and establish a three-day waiting period on gun purchases. They also include language allowing school employees and teachers to be armed. Another provision allows law enforcement to apply for a "risk protection order" from a judge to seize the guns of the mentally ill and anyone deemed a danger to the community.
Broward deputies sought the order in Smith’s case after he was arrested March 29 on an attempted murder charge for allegedly firing six shots into the back of a car being driving by his best friend, Jackon Lavon, 34.

Hundreds of gun owners in Florida have been ordered to give up their guns under a new law that took effect after the deadly Parkland shooting in February, according to a report published Monday.
The Risk Protection Order (http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=0700-0799/0790/Sections/0790.401.html), signed by Florida Gov. Rick Scott just three weeks after a gunman killed 17 people at Stoneman Douglas, aims to temporarily remove weapons from gun owners who have been deemed by a judge to possibly be a threat to themselves or others.

Roughly 200 firearms have been confiscated in the state since the law was enacted, Sgt. Jason Schmittendorf, of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, told WFTS-TV (https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/local-news/i-team-investigates/more-than-450-people-in-florida-ordered-to-surrender-guns-months-after-new-gun-law-took-effect). "Around 30,000 rounds of ammunition" were also taken, he said.
A five-person team in the county that's worked solely on the risk protection law reportedly has filed 64 risk protection petitions in court. Broward County, according to the news outlet, has filed 88 risk protection petitions since March.
"It’s a constitutional right to bear arms and when you are asking the court to deprive somebody of that right we need to make sure we are making good decisions, right decisions and the circumstances warrant it,” Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri told the station in defense of the task force.
Every petition filed under the order in Pinellas County has so far been granted by the judge, according to the report.

So, they then are forced into getting a gun the way a criminal would?
