Mitt Romney (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/mitt-romney/) is being hit with the first attack ad of the Utah Senate race Thursday, a slickly produced video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYkArqqxIR8&feature=youtu.be) that portrays him as a darling of the D.C. establishment and gives him the nickname “flip-flopper Mitt (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/mitt-romney/).”
The ad from Republican candidate Larry Meyers slams Mr. Romney (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/mitt-romney/), the presumptive front-runner in the GOP (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/republican-party/) race, with accusations of not being conservative enough for Utah voters.
“The D.C. establishment loves Mitt Romney (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/mitt-romney/). But Utah voters have a better choice. Larry Meyers,” says the announcer.
It then rips open an old wound for Mr. Romney (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/mitt-romney/), the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and a former Massachusetts governor.
In 2012, President Barack Obama also accused Mr. Romney (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/mitt-romney/) of being a flip-flopper and having “no core.”
“Flip-flopper Mitt has been all over the map. On issues like the Second Amendment. On issues like life. And the last time Mitt Romney (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/mitt-romney/) was elected, he stuck the country with the blueprint for Obamacare,” says the ad, the voice-over announcer’s words repeated in text across the screen.
These lines of attack are expected to dominate the race, as it follows a familiar patter of recent GOP (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/republican-party/) primaries becoming conservative versus establishment showdowns.
“Utah voters have a choice. Mitt Romney (https://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/mitt-romney/)’s liberal Massachusetts values or qualified, conservative Larry Meyers,” says the ad.
The ad will first run as a web video and later as a TV spot, according to the Meyers campaign.

Help Larry Beat Massachusetts Mitt–DONATE NOW
Don’t Restock the DC Swamp!

St. George attorney and Utah Republican Assembly leader Larry Meyers is taking on former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney for the Utah Republican Party nomination for the US Senate. Unlike Romney, Meyers is a long-time Utah resident and will be a strong voice supporting the conservative movement and limited, Constitutional government.

Meyers is a graduate of Brigham Young University and the BYU Law School and previously worked as a prosecuting attorney in Washington County. As the former chairman of the Southwestern Special Service District, he has experience in balancing budgets and providing local government services. Meyers has also served as a Republican county party officer and state central committee member, as well as being elected as a Utah GOP National Delegate in 2008 and 2016.

Larry Meyers’ top priorities are cutting spending, balancing the budget, securing our nation and our borders, cleaning up scandal-plagued federal agencies, de-funding Planned Parenthood, eliminating Common Core, and returning control of Utah’s public lands back to the State of Utah.

He should run for the California senator seat, he has a house there too. It would be fun watching him go toe to toe with Feinstien.

Why would anyone - in any state - think Romney would make a good US Senator - I dunno.

Looks like they're going to get Mitt anyway, whether they get Meyers or not. Because as many suitable judges as there are available (including Napolitano, who you yourself assured us would be the next nominee), Trump is talking about yanking Lee, one of the few decent ones, out of the Senate and tucking him safely out of the way on the court.

That'll mean one fewer decent sitting Senators and two positions to fill in Utah.

While I'd prefer that someone not already in office with good positions got the SCOTUS pick Lee wouldn't be that bad of a choice, SCOTUS is more important than one vote in the Senate and Meyers would replace Lee.

Lee started well, but has been slipping. While he was better than 98% of his colleagues, I think he has slipped to the ninetieth percentile. Not as good as Judge Nap. And we have no idea if Meyers is going to be any good or not.

In any case, we could and should be getting someone like Nap on the Court, and be getting Meyers in addition to Lee in the Senate. You can be as dismissive as you wish about the Senate, because it's a committee. But it's a damned important committee. A damned important committee. And as long as tricks like this are used, we are not improving the quality of that damned important committee. We will keep getting shit like Romney in there.

I don't see a silver lining. This will move SCOTUS, also an important committee, marginally in the right direction, but Trump could move both in the right direction. He could. But he doesn't appear to be willing to do it.

On a scale of 1-to-Trump, Mitt Romney wants you to know his conservatism is off the charts.
Speaking in Utah on Monday, Romney, who is running for Senate in the solid-red state, reassured the crowd of his deeply conservative views and described himself as even more conservative than President Trump on many issues.
"For instance, I'm a deficit hawk," Romney said, per the Daily Herald (https://www.heraldextra.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/elections/at-q-a-in-provo-mitt-romney-says-he-s/article_efee3320-23ac-5435-8c49-ddca54a69fe8.html) out of Provo, Utah. "That makes me more conservative than a lot of Republicans and a lot of Democrats. I'm also more of a hawk on immigration than even the president. My view was these DACA kids shouldn't all be allowed to stay in the country legally."
Romney, who is running to fill the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Orrin Hatch (R), told the audience that he is actually more right-leaning than he appeared during his 2012 presidential campaign, which he says adopted a more "mainstream conservative" platform.

He was a governor of our state and he got his Romneycare Bill thru our legislature on Beacon Hill. Curiously enough, he's a Bay State Centrist, and not a Massachusetts Liberal, even though he does own a LIMO. A vote for Mitt Romney right now in Utah is a vote for one of the "judges" at Donald John Trump's upcoming Senate Trial. If it's a 65 to 34 split, our own Gentleman Mitt could possibly be the guy who joins Edmund Ross of Kansas in the history books, or he is to be the guy who is like a medieval Pope in that he places an imperial crown on Mike Pence's head. Either way... I will return here to opine on things.

Okayyyyy Mike Pence either wears boxers or briefs or
nothing at all, but Stormy Daniels claims she has good
photos on a CD-Rom of POTuS's dick/prick. If all that
seperates Gentleman Mitt out from much of the GOP
is his undies, he may be an improvement over this zoo.
Mind you it'd be cool to see Rand Paul running in '20!
