View Full Version : Protect the www.RonPaul2008.com server on Dec. 16

Server uptime will be crucial to the success of Tea Party '07. The following tips will help ensure that the server stays up, allowing the most possible donations on December 16th.

1. Donate very early in the morning or very late at night to miss the rush. Be aware that the donations are counted on Eastern Time. Donate between 1 -
6 AM Eastern time or between 9 - 11:30 PM Eastern time. If you are not sure how to convert to Eastern time from your timezone, go here:

2. Do not use www.RonPaul2008.com to check for daily totals. All of us hitting that flash heavy home page all day long will have an adverse effect on the servers. Instead, use www.RonPaulGraphs.com and turn off the flash widget. This website hits the server once every few minutes.

3. Add the month and day of your birthday to determine what time you donate. So if your birthday is October 10th, and 10 + 10 to get 20. Then add that to whatever hour you are donating. So if you want to donate at around 9 PM, donate at 9:20 PM instead. This will space out our donations throughout the hour.

4. If all else fails, and the website crashes, do not panic. Just wait a few minutes and try again. We have 24 hours to make this happen, and it's very unlikely that a server crash will last that long.

The odds of the server crashing are pretty low. There were only about 35,000 donators on Nov. 5th, I think, and just about any decent web server can handle that traffic (especially since they were spaced out through the day). But, if Tea Party is bigger, and 10,000 of us hit the server in a few minutes, that could certainly cause problems.

These tips should help keep the server up and running.

Actually, it was a bit less than 39,000 :p

-Stay off the site unless you're donating.

-Donate early/late

And I'd like to add...

-Donate between 12:01am and11:45pm EST (don't wait LAST LAST minute, there could always be delays in the system!) We saw the donations that came in a few hours after midnight after Nov 5th... those were most likely western donors going by their own time zone, costing the day hundreds of thousands towards the 24 hour total. Donations are tracked in EST!

Actually, I am more worried about Paypal than our site...

Still the donate early rule is a very good one!
