US President Donald Trump (http://www.independent.co.uk/topic/DonaldTrump) has said America's legislators must "do something" to tackle the issue of violence in video games (http://www.independent.co.uk/topic/violent-video-games).
Speaking at a White House meeting of local and state officials on security in the aftermath of the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida (http://www.independent.co.uk/topic/florida-school-shooting), the President criticised gaming culture and the ease with which young people can see films featuring graphic violence and bloodshed.

"We have to look at the Internet because a lot of bad things are happening to young kids and young minds and their minds are being formed, and we have to do something about maybe what they’re seeing and how they’re seeing it," he said.
"I’m hearing more and more people say the level of violence on video games is really shaping young people’s thoughts. And you go the further step, and that’s the movies. You see these movies, and they’re so violent. And yet a kid is able to see the movie if sex isn’t involved, but killing is involved, and maybe they have to put a rating system for that."
Video games already carry age restrictions in the US and are subjected to a rigorous certification process, as they are in the UK.
President Trump declined to go into further specifics about what measures might be undertaken to address concerns.

Trump wants a ratings system for movies and video games. We already have them. He can declare victory and go home now.

That is a pet peeve of mine, people blaming "violent video games". Any time I see someone climbing up on that cross I am always quick to point out to them that study after study after study all show that youth violence has dropped significantly with the advent of those video games.

Exactly. Video games have never caused any violence in the world I live in.

Plus, I tell parents that perhaps their child will be the next Ender & save the planet. ;)

“It's important for us to explain to our nation that life is important. It's not only life of babies, but it's life of children living in, you know, the dark dungeons of the Internet.” ― George W. Bush

Its Marketing.

Just like TV or Movie ratings, TV-MA and R Rating actually encourages more people to watch it. People barely pay attention to this as it is. Perhaps a few parents, but if a movie does have some sort of restricted rating, those kids end up with the desire to watch things they "are not supposed" to watch. Whether or not they get to watch restricted content is a mute point because once they are able to get that restricted content, they will consume more than they did before. Video Games is no different, and Trump coming out and "attacking violent video games" is really just a push by marketing companies to increase sales of restricted products. It just has the opposite effect of actual restrictions.

How about not giving gamers real live Kill Squads.
