View Full Version : Trump: Active shooter drills 'a very negative thing'

President Trump signaled Thursday that he does not believe that active shooter drills at the nation’s schools are a good way to address the rash of gun violence plaguing them.

“Active shooter drills is a very negative thing,” Trump said during a White House meeting (https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-predicts-nra-will-back-raising-age-limit-gun-purchases-200604955.html)focussed on a government response to mass shootings like the one that last week claimed the lives of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (https://www.yahoo.com/news/live-updates-shooting-high-school-parkland-fla-multiple-injuries-reported-200936418.html) in Parkland, Fla. “If I’m a child, I’m 10 years old, and they say, ‘We’re going to have an active shooter drill,’ I say, ‘What’s that?’ ‘Well people may come in and shoot you.’ I think that’s a very negative thing to be talking about, to be honest with you. I don’t like it. I’d much rather have a hardened school.”
Over the past two days, with much of the nation focussed on school shootings, Trump has repeatedly suggested (https://www.yahoo.com/news/listening-session-school-shootings-trump-urges-giving-teachers-guns-235554901.html) that arming school teachers and staff with firearms would prove as a effective means of deterrence for future massacres.

Interesting considering how many of these events take place at the same time as a "drill".

It'd be nice if he could ban false flag operations.

Can't we just make it like super really illegal to shoot up schools?

Hardened schools like hardened prisons? LM-motherfucking-AO. We don't need "hardened" schools. We need "softened" schools. Shut up Drunk-Trump.

We just need some of those TSA naked body scanners in our schools. I don't think the metal detectors are working.

I think he means allowing teachers who go through firearms training to have a firearm available to defend themselves and their students.

Moats could actually work. Basically a passive form of defense.

Not a bad idea.

We had drills in school after Columbine. The plan was to lock the classroom door and put construction paper over the door windows. You know, so that if a shooter came into the school he would just give up because apparently no one was hiding behind locked doors and covered windows. It was basically stupid, but it helped people to feel safe without actually being safe.

And alligators with lasers in the moats.

And alligators with lasers in the moats.

Alligators maybe, but lasers would be too dangerous.

Can put an eye out with those things.

Uncertainty about who might stop you would prevent some shooters.

About this last one, there were at least 2 videos that said that there would be a drill, and one said to expect police firing blanks.

Trump is right to point the finger at drills.

Hey, I'll run a drill in my family's home school. Give me a half a second to check...

Yep, we're armed and protected.
