Trump declines to approve release of Dem counter-memo

White House counsel Don McGahn wrote a letter to House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif)
explaining that “although the president is inclined to declassify” the Democratic countermemo,
the administration believes it would create “especially significant concerns” for “national security and law enforcement interests.”

Trump’s legal team insists that it came to that conclusion at the behest of senior officials
at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Nunes: 'No surprise' Dem memo wasn't released

House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said Friday he was not surprised
that the Justice Department and FBI advised against the release of the countermemo authored by
the panel's Democratic members.

Trump declines to release Democratic memo

In a letter transmitted to the committee late Friday, the White House counsel Donald McGahn said though
President Trump was “inclined to declassify” he won’t be doing so because of national security reasons.

In the letter to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., McGahn said Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats,
FBI Director Christopher Wray, and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein were involved in the review of the 10-page memo.

Feinstein's statement Friday also said "any changes that need to be made" for the Secret Agent Schiff countermemo
to be declassified "should be made swiftly" and the memo "should be released."

Donald Trump's incredible hypocrisy on the Democratic counter-memo

Trump had said earlier Friday he planned to release the memo.

"It's gonna be released soon," Trump told reporters at the White House, adding, "We're going to release a letter."

Trump cited concerns from the Justice Department and FBI in his objection to releasing the Democratic memo. But Trump ignored those concerns when he decided to release the Republican memo last week -- despite the FBI releasing a rare statement to say the Nunes memo omitted key information and the Justice Department raising "grave concerns" about its release without proper review.

Will this be the wake-up call that the Democrats need to realize that there's way too much Central Power in the executive branch? Somehow I doubt it. It's sad that these people are pathetic.

Massie agreed with Trump's decision before Trump made it. The memo un-redacted doesn't really counter the Republican memo, and it contains a lot of information that shouldn't be released due to national security concerns.

It hasn't been released yet- how do you know? Are you a Swamp Critter? (the Republican memo doesn't say Trump is clear or that the warrants weren't legal either- it also failed to live up to its hype though some try to spin it that way).

I said why in the sentence before, Massie agreed with Trump's decision before he made it because, OBVIOUSLY, he read the memo (he said he read it, I didn't repeat it because I didn't think I would have to based on the rest of my post)

It hasn't been released to the PUBLIC you effin' retard Zippy! ALWAYS posting what you don't know.

Every member of the House has been able to read - if they wanted to -
both the Nunes Memo and the Secret Agent Schiff Dim countermemo, and that has definitely including Massie
in an interview on CNBC, posted on youtube and here on RPF.

Full House can take it up now . . . and I'll doubt the Dim countermemo gets by them either.

Massie my favorite congressman. He is far smarter than me. But as you can see by the photo, I am extraordinary concerned with our government. In this case I strongly agree with our leaders in Congress. The corrupt criminals need to be exposed. We need more openness. Fixing elections is not a good thing for our Republic.

A former Federal prosecutor claims that the Democratic response to the House Intel Committee's GOP-authored "FISA memo" was blocked on the recommendation of the FBI and DOJ because the agencies are conducting internal investigations into politically motivated malfeasance by specific individuals which the Schiff memo could compromise if released without redactions.

Joe DiGenova, a former Special Counsel who went after both the Teamsters and former NY Governer Elliot Spitzer, made the claim on a Monday interview with radio station WMAL.
DiGenova: “We’re going to see the [Democrat memo]. It will be heavily edited by the FBI and the Department of Justice and the CIA. The most important part of this story is that on Friday, February the 9th, Rod Rosenstein and Christopher Wray wrote a letter to the White House counsel Don McGahn that they could not agree to the publication of the Schiff memo because it contained national security and law enforcement concerns. It was actually the FBI and the Department of Justice says no [to releasing the memo]. The most important part of that letter is when it says… law enforcement concerns. What does that mean? It means, that there is a criminal investigation underway and release of some of the information in the memo by Mr. Schiff will affect that criminal investigation. I wonder who they are investigating? And the answer is pretty clear. They are investigating the people at the FBI and the DOJ who provided false information to the FISA court over a number of years, including, involving Carter Page.”
