A crash involving an Amtrak passenger train and a freight train in Cayce, South Carolina, left at least two people dead and more than 70 injured.

All the passengers have been removed from Amtrak 91, which was operating from New York to Miami.

The crash between the Amtrak train and a CSX freight train occurred near Charleston Highway and Pine Ridge Road around 2:35 a.m. Sunday morning. The lead engine and a few passenger cars derailed, according to Amtrak.

For the 70 or so who are classified as injured, their injuries range from small scratches to broken bones, according to Lexington County public information officer Harrison Cahill.

At least seven people were transported to local hospitals for various injuries. The severity of those injuries, including whether or not they are life threatening, was not immediately known.

It would appear that something is seriously wrong with the way passenger rail is operating in the United States under the federal corporation AMTRAK. This crash is the third fatal AMTRAK crash since the AMTRAK Cascades train derailed in Washington State at the cost of 3 lives and 62 passenger injuries only 49 days ago. Last Wednesday’s crash in Virginia of a train carrying Congressional Republicans to a retreat killed one. And now, the South Carolina crash has killed at least two.

Each of these three accidents had a separate, probably preventable cause, though of course official verdicts await formal proceedings.

The Washington State crash was due to excessive speed going into a curve.

The Virginia crash was due to a garbage truck on a grade crossing being hit by a train. There were some media reports that a crossing barrier that should have prevented access as a train approached was not functioning, but that is not absolutely clear as the cause.

The South Carolina crash was due to two trains being placed on the same track – something that should not happen with the level of sophisticated signaling available to dispatchers.

Im going to have to reconsider my mode of transportation for a trip we're taking in April to Alabama. We were going to take the train, I think I'll just drive.

And this is their third derailment in so many months? Must be nice to work for AMTRAK; your company's so chill, they let you watch train wrecks and blame it on malfunctioned equipment.

Oil companies exert so much influence over the federal government that the federal government has been waging covert or overt warfare in the Middle East for over half a century, just to ensure the oil companies have access to raw materials. Should we really be surprised that an allegedly conservative Republican president nationalized the most fuel efficient means of travel known to man, cut services to the bone, increased travel times by, on one major route at least, 25% over the speed achieved during the Steam Age, made the atmosphere and service aboard uniform and unappealing, and commenced killing those stubborn enough to travel the fuel efficient way anyway?

4 dead, 63 injured after NYC-bound Metro-North passenger train derails in Bronx

Officials said seven cars, including the locomotive, tore off the tracks Sunday near the Hudson River while headed toward Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal. Two people were thrown from the rail cars. Gov. Andrew Cuomo visited the scene, while one witness recounted, 'Maybe it was a minute, it felt like an eternity, I just wanted it to stop.'

As a kid I culturally appropriated feathers, loinclothes and war paint on occasions. I'm ashamed my white, patriarchal, cis-gendered, privileged past caused me to do this. I hereby apologize for all children not of Native American heritage who have done a noble people this dishonor.

Bahahahahaha! I crack me up.

Larkin said he heard screams and crying all around him as he tried to get out. Other passengers were bleeding. His right knee throbbed from where it banged the row of seats in front of him.

Walking with a limp, Larkin said he was dazed and didn't know where he was when the train finally came to a complete stop.

"It's a blessing to be alive," said Larkin, a resident of Pamlico, North Carolina, speaking outside a middle school where passengers were taken. "I thought that I was dead."

Once he got off the train, Larkin said arriving police officers told him to stop taking photos of the crumpled train and not to share any of the images he had already captured.

"I thought it was a little strange," Larkin said of the request.

Amtrak train breaks apart at 125 mph

A high-speed Amtrak train bound for Penn Station broke apart as it was cruising through Maryland on Tuesday, sources told The Post.

A high-speed Amtrak train bound for Penn Station broke apart as it was moving at top speed through Maryland.
The 2150 Acela was traveling from Washington D.C. to the Big Apple when the incident happened at about 6:30 a.m. The train was traveling at about 125 mph, according to the source.

“Someone could have been walking through the train when that happened and fell to their death,” said the source.

Amtrak officials confirmed the incident and said there were 52 passengers aboard at the time.

A photo shows the connector between two coupled trains broken and separated. Only the air hoses remained connected between the two cars, which both had passengers in them, said the source.

“There was a lot of sparking and smoking at the head of the train and a lot of bouncing around,” the source said.

A rescue train pulled up next to the crippled Acela and took the passengers to Philadelphia, where they then got other trains to continue on to New York City.

There were no injuries, said Amtrak officials, who added that they are investigating the incident.

“We are currently investigating the cause of the car separation, inspecting every Acela trainset, and taking any necessary actions to prevent a reoccurrence,” said Amtrak spokesman Jason Abrams.

The incident happened just two days after an Amtrak train traveling through South Carolina slammed into the back of a freight train, killing two workers. And last week, an Amtrak train carrying several members of Congress slammed into a garbage truck in Virginia.
