U.S. President Donald Trump's administration notified Congress that sanctions against Russia (https://worldview.stratfor.com/article/us-prepares-shine-unwelcome-light-russian-oligarchs) were not needed because the 2017 Russia sanctions bill is serving as a deterrent, Politico reporter Elana Schor tweeted Jan. 29. The U.S. Treasury Department was set Jan. 29 to release a series of reports ordered by Congress outlining options for expanding sanctions against Russian businesses and individuals in retaliation for Russian interference in U.S. elections.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the United States will impose new sanctions on Russia in the near future, France24 reported Jan. 30.
