While people are still talking about the landmark 2011 bill that abolished the New Hampshire state general minimum wage, 20 states will increase the government mandated minimum wage in 2018. 80% of New Hampshire Senators voted for HB133. New Hampshire is 1 of only 6 states without a general minimum wage. Despite not having a minimum wage, New Hampshire has nearly the highest median household income*in the nation.

Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, and Washington already increased or will their state government minimum wage this year. Various communities, including D.C., will also increase their forced minimum wage. Meanwhile, New Hampshire municipalities are banned from harming workers by regulating minimum wages.

True, Walmart just increased the Walmart minimum wage to $11 an hour or saying it was because of the Republican tax reform plan. So there you go, $11 an hour minimum wage without any government force.

It is fantastic to see a Maine Republican trying to slow down the damage the state minimum wage increases are doing to that state.

AUGUSTA – A legislative panel will start considering a bill to soften the minimum wage hike approved by voters in 2016.

Republicans and some business groups have pushed to reverse a law they argue will harm Maine’s economy in the long-term. Lawmakers last year agreed to remove the voter-approved minimum wage hike for tipped employees.

But much of the law remains in effect, while other voter-approved laws have been stymied or blocked.

Republican Rep. Joel Stetkis’ bill would cut Maine’s minimum wage from $10 per hour to $9.50 per hour. Stetkis represents House District 105, which includes Cambridge, Canaan, Hartland, Palmyra, Ripley and St. Albans.

An online summary of the legislation says it would create a youth minimum wage and a training minimum age for 18- to 20-year- olds.

The bill also eliminates cost-of-living increases to the minimum wage.
