The pair became panicked, according to the book, as the FBI and Justice Department moved in that direction, fueled by Kushner's father, Charles, who started the family real estate empire.
'Ivanka is terrified,' former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon told Wolff, referring to the telegenic pair as 'the kids' in Michael Wolff's 'Fire and Fury, Inside the Trump White House (http://geni.us/fBEgoiy).'

A new book describes Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner fearfully eyeing special counsel Robert Mueller's probe out of concern their own finances could come under the microscope

Kushner's finances came under increasing public scrutiny in the early days of the Trump administration, as Chinese giant Anbang Insurance Group pulled out of a New York real estate deal for a trophy Kushner property on Fifth Avenue.
The book recounts President Donald Trump telling 'multiple people' that Kushner could solve the Middle East problem 'because the Kushners knew all the crooks in Israel.'
The book describes Charles Kushner has having a fear 'channeled' through his son and daughter-in-law about getting wrapped up in the probe. The book describes him in a state of 'panic.'

The fears are described as a backdrop for Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey despite the urgings of his chief of staff, Reince Priebus.
Kushner did not oppose the firing, and the 'Kushner side' is quoted explaining the extent of his involvement in the decision.
'Did he support the decision? Yes. Was he told this was happening? Yes. Did he encourage it? No. Was he fighting for it for weeks and months? No. Did he fight [the ouster]? No. Did he say it would go badly? No.'

Kushner and Ivanka Trump 'encouraged' Trump to fire FBI Director James Comey, according to the book. The Kushner camp is quoted only as saying he supported the decision

After Trump carried out the firing, former chief of staff Reince Priebus, who argued against the decision, is quoted saying: 'So next it's a special prosecutor!'
The White House has called the book full of 'lies.'
A December report in Bloomberg (https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2017-kushner-properties-stakes/) catalogued times when Kushner Companies hyped its stake in investments where the family in fact owned only a fractional percentage.
In one prominent deal, at 80-90 Maiden Lane, the stake was just 2 percent, according to the report.
Jared Kushner had to make numerous revisions to his financial disclosure reports when he joined the administration and got a security clearance.
He failed to disclose his role as a director fo the Charles and Seryl Kushner Foundation from 2006 to 2015, which funded Israeli settlement construction considered illegal at the time under international law, Newsweek (http://www.newsweek.com/jared-kushner-disclosure-form-west-bank-settlements-israel-white-house-729290) reported.

United States

Jared Kushner, Shanda

How the scion of one tri-state crime family married into another, in a story equal parts ‘Sopranos’ and ‘Game of Thrones.’

By James Kirchick

Charles Kushner seemed to have an insatiable appetite for money and power and recognized the role politics played at the nexus of both. To maximize his influence, Kushner circumvented federal campaign finance laws by funneling money to candidates and elected officials with donations made in the names of other people and through the more than 100 separate real-estate development partnerships he controlled. In one of this already absurd campaign’s more novelistic ironies, Kushner’s dirty dealings caught the attention of a young, ambitious federal prosecutor named Chris Christie, who opened up an investigation that called Kushner’s sister, Esther, and brother-in-law, Billy, as witnesses. Determined to prevent Billy from testifying, Charles set up a honey trap (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/19/nyregion/major-donor-admits-hiring-prostitute-to-smear-witness.html?_r=0) for his brother-in-law in a motel room—fully equipped with video cameras—and paid a prostitute $10,000. Kushner then sent a tape of the assignation to his sister, who promptly turned her brother’s attempt at blackmail over to the authorities.

Kushner was also implicated in the simultaneous downfall of his political protégé McGreevy, who became infamous for a live televised resignation during which he announced to the world that he was “a gay American.” Thanks to this cynical deflection, most today remember McGreevy as having done nothing worse than commit marital infidelity under the duress of his decision to marry a woman and live his life in the closet. But the main reason McGreevy was forced to step down from his post was that his former lover, an Israeli man named Golan Cipel whom he had put on the state payroll in a make-work job, was threatening to sue him for sexual harassment.
So, who was Golan Cipel? McGreevy had met Cipel several years earlier in Israel, and it was Charles Kushner who sponsored the young Israeli’s work visa to the United States and then generously employed Cipel in one of his companies before the governor hired him. Some speculated (http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/people/features/9874/index3.html) that Kushner, recognizing the blackmail potential of this arrangement, persuaded Cipel to threaten McGreevy with exposure. That would explain why, 10 minutes before McGreevy’s tearful confession, a lawyer representing Cipel called (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/17/nyregion/fallout-resignation-investigation-inquiry-said-be-focusing-plan-for-touro.html) McGreevy’s office conveying the message that the jilted lover would keep their affair secret if the governor fulfilled an odd request: grant a charter to Touro College allowing it to open a medical school in New Jersey—a medical school for which Charles Kushner had raised money and hoped to name after his late mother. (At the time, Kushner, through his lawyer, denied (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/17/nyregion/fallout-resignation-investigation-inquiry-said-be-focusing-plan-for-touro.html) any involvement.)

A new book from political journalist Michael Wolff may contain bombshell information about the inner workings of the Trump White House. At the very least, it will have plenty of juicy quotes.
“My goal was not to write as an outsider looking in, but to find out what the insiders were really thinking and feeling,” Wolff told the Guardian. (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/nov/14/new-book-is-insider-view-of-nasty-daily-clashes-at-trumps-volatile-white-house). Wolff was reportedly on the scene at pivotal moments in the early presidency, such as when Trump fired former FBI director James Comey.
The specter of the Russia investigations seems to loom large in the book.
“They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV,” Steve Bannon told Wolff (http://www.scmp.com/news/world/united-states-canada/article/2126728/theyre-going-crack-don-jnr-egg-steve-bannons) when speaking about the Russia probe.
“This is all about money laundering,” Bannon adds. “Mueller chose [senior prosecutor Andrew] Weissmann first and he is a money-laundering guy. Their path to f****** Trump goes right through Paul Manafort, Don Junior and Jared Kushner… It’s as plain as a hair on your face.”
Another big theme of the book is the bad blood between Bannon and the president’s family members, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.
“It is a war between the Jews and the non-Jews,” said former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger about the White House.

It appears various claims made in the book have not been confirmed by Trump WH or even other MSM outlets, we may need to wait till facts come out and claims are either validated or denied by reputable sources. Even if media is anti-Trump, they should allow him to present his side of events before accepting these controversial claims as facts.

Leaks from the highly publicized book to the press are getting bit out of hand, has these reports from the book been confirmed by White House spokeperson?

Turns out WH press secretary Sarah Sanders, who is widely respected even in left wing media circuit, had already addressed some of controversial claims in the book.

(CNN)In the wake of three days of erratic behavior and amid the controversy caused by a book suggesting he is forgetful and dismissed by many who work for him, questions of President Donald Trump's mental competence are everywhere.

At Thursday's press briefing, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders called the idea that Trump was mentally unfit for the job "disgraceful and laughable." (http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/04/politics/president-donald-trump-mental-fitness/index.html) She added: "If he was unfit, he probably wouldn't be sitting there, wouldn't have defeated the most qualified group of candidates the Republican Party has ever seen."
While it's far from a determinative explanation from Sanders, she does have a point. And the point is this: Trump is who he has always been.

Bannon claimed that Trump disparaged Sessions to provide “cover” for Kushner

Bannon’s gripe against Kushner in Vanity Fair continues: He claims that Donald Trump’s disparaging tweets about Attorney General Jeff Sessions were designed to provide “cover” for Kushner by steering negative media attention toward Sessions and away from Kushner as he was scheduled to testify before a Senate committee.

Getting mauled by Steve Bannon might not be the worst thing to happen to the president’s son-in-law this week. He and Ivanka were sued (https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/17/ivanka-trump-jared-kushner-sued-financial-disclosures-302240) by a private attorney for failing to disclose assets from 30 investment funds on their federal financial disclosure forms. Perhaps more ominous for Kushner, and according (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/22/business/kushner-deutsche-bank-subpoena.html?smid=tw-share) to the New York Times, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn have subpoenaed Deutsche Bank records about Kushner’s family’s real estate business. “There is no indication that the subpoena is related to the investigation being conducted by Robert S. Mueller III,” the Times allowed. Yeah, but wouldn’t you want to be there when Mueller’s team invites Bannon in to talk to him about the Vanity Fair and they ask him, “What did you mean about Jared taking meetings with Russians to get additional stuff? Like, what stuff?”

The Washington Post reports (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/kushners-legal-team-looks-to-hire-crisis-public-relations-firm/2017/12/15/6fbf144c-e1c3-11e7-9eb6-e3c7ecfb4638_story.html?utm_term=.a5f2b518fdef) that his lawyer, Abbe Lowell, has been shopping for a “crisis public relations firm” over the past two weeks. Steve Bannon savages 'Javanka', laying bare White House tensions

Donald Trump’s former chief strategist has called Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner ‘the railhead of all bad decisions’ in a Vanity Fair interview

Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner (https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/jared-kushner) are under fresh scrutiny over their influence at the White House after a very public eruption of their feud with former chief strategist Steve Bannon.
In a gloves-off interview with Vanity Fair magazine, (https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/12/bannon-for-president-trump-kushner-ivanka) Bannon laid bare the mutual enmity with the senior advisers to the president, one of the worst-kept secrets of the Trump administration.
“The railhead of all bad decisions is the same railhead: Javanka,” he said, using a nickname that conflates the couple.
Bannon, who returned to rightwing site Breitbart News after being forced out of the White House in August, recalled an Oval Office meeting in which he accused Ivanka of being “the queen of leaks”. The first daughter allegedly retorted: “You’re a $#@!ing liar!”

Ivanka was a fount of bad advice during the campaign
Steve Bannon

He also condemned Ivanka over her handling of the recent US Senate special election in Alabama, where Republican candidate Roy Moore denied accusations of sexual misconduct with teenagers. Ivanka said pointedly during the campaign: “There is a special place in hell for people who prey on children.”

New Book on Trump Reveals Competition Between Kushner and Bannon on Israel Policy

Author details how Trump giving Kushner responsibility over Israeli-Palestinian negotiations immediately created tension between the president's son-in-law and Bannon
Amir Tibon Jan 06, 2018

A new book chronicling U.S. President Donald Trump (http://www.haaretz.com/misc/tags/tags-1.679173)'s rise to power and first year in office presents Israel as a major point of contention between two of the president's closest advisors – Jared Kushner (http://www.haaretz.com/misc/tags/Tags-1.765830) and Steve Bannon. Details regarding the Trump administration's internal debate in Israel are revealed in Michael Wolff's "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House." The book, which is currently at the center of a political storm (https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/1.833266), also details casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson's behind-the-scenes involvement on this issue.

According to the book, Bannon was pushing to move the American Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on Trump's first day in office. He also wanted to finally kill the two-state solution (https://www.haaretz.com/misc/tags/two-state-solution-1.477680) by announcing that Jordan will take back the West Bank and Egypt will assume control over the Gaza Strip. In the book's first chapter, he is quoted telling Roger Ailes, former head of Fox News, this plan, adding that Adelson, Trump and Netanyahu were all "on board" with the idea.

According to Wolff, "Bannon’s effort to grab the stronger-on-Israel label was deeply confounding to Kushner, who was raised as an Orthodox Jew. For Kushner, Bannon’s right-wing defense of Israel, embraced by Trump, somehow became a jujitsu piece of anti-Semitism aimed directly at him. Bannon seemed determined to make Kushner appear weak and inadequate – a cuck, in alt-right speak."
Wolff adds: "on Israel, Bannon had partnered with Sheldon Adelson, titan of Las Vegas, big-check right-wing contributor, and, in the president’s mind, quite the toughest tough-guy Jew (that is, the richest)."

The full paragraph reads: "'Charlie Kushner,' said Bannon, smacking his head again in additional disbelief. 'He’s going crazy because they’re going to get down deep in his $#@! about how he’s financed everything. The rabbis with the diamonds and all the $#@! coming out of Israel and all these guys coming out of Eastern Europe all these Russian guys and guys in Kazakhstan. And he’s frozen on 666 [Fifth Avenue], when it goes under next year, the whole thing’s cross-collateralized he’s wiped, he’s gone, he’s done, it’s over. Toast.'"
The book, released on Friday, became an instant bestseller upon its release.

Mueller looking at Ivanka Trump's interaction with Russian lawyer at Trump Tower: report

By Josh Delk - 01/06/18

Special counsel Robert Mueller (http://thehill.com/people/robert-mueller) is reportedly looking into an interaction between a Russian lawyer and Ivanka Trump (http://thehill.com/people/ivana-ivanka-trump) surrounding a controversial Trump Tower meeting during the campaign.
While the first daughter and now-White House adviser did not take part in the June 2016 meeting, she exchanged greetings with the Russian attorney and a lobbyist who attended the meeting as they stepped off an elevator, a person familiar with the exchange told the Los Angeles Times (http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-pol-trump-probe-20180106-story.html).
Mueller's team is looking into any interactions the attorney, Natalia Veselnitskaya, and lobbyist, Rinat Akhmetshin, had with President Trump (http://thehill.com/people/donald-trump)'s family members and inner circle, the Times reported.
The June 2016 meeting — when the president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. (http://thehill.com/people/donald-don-trump), met with the attorney, who promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton (http://thehill.com/people/hillary-clinton) — has become a flashpoint in the Russia probe.
Trump Jr., the president's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner (http://thehill.com/people/jared-kushner) and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort (http://thehill.com/people/paul-manafort) all attended the meeting with the Russian lawyer and lobbyist.

Interesting stuff. Has anyone gotten their hands on a copy yet?

December report in Bloomberg (https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2017-kushner-properties-stakes/) catalogued times when Kushner Companies hyped its stake in investments where the family in fact owned only a fractional percentage. In one prominent deal, at 80-90 Maiden Lane, the stake was just 2 percent, according to the report.

Like father-in-law like son-in-law, evidently.

Report: Israeli Insurer Invested $30 Million In Kushner Firm Before Kushner Trip To Israel

Critics question how Jared Kushner can profit from such a transaction and still function as an independent peacekeeper representing America.

By Mary Papenfuss

An Israeli insurer invested $30 million in the Kushner family real estate firm shortly before White House senior adviser Jared Kushner (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/topic/jared-kushner) traveled to Israel on a diplomatic mission in May 2017, The New York Times reported Sunday (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/07/business/jared-kushner-israel.html).

The funds have raised conflict-of-interest concerns about President Donald Trump (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/topic/donald-trump)’s son-in-law, who still has a stake in the real estate project that benefited from the insurance money, according to the Times.

In fact, the Kushner family firm benefits from several investments from Israeli financial institutions, including for other projects that provide income to Kushner, the Times notes. Kushner Companies has also taken out several loans from Bank Hapoalim in Israel. The bank is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice over accusations that it helped Americans evade taxes, the Times reported.

And Israel is not the only case of Kushner Companies benefiting from investments from foreign countries while Kushner himself, a key stakeholder, is dealing with those same nations as a federal official.

Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission and Brooklyn federal prosecutors are investigating (https://www.wsj.com/articles/sec-looks-into-kushner-cos-use-of-eb-5-program-for-immigrant-investors-1515240181) the Kushner company’s (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/kushner-investigation-invisas-formoney_us_5a51ad55e4b01e1a4b15a93e?utm_hp_ref=ja red-kushner) participation in the EB-5 visa program (https://www.uscis.gov/eb-5). The program provides green cards to well-heeled foreigners who invest a minimum of $500,000 in certain businesses. At least two Kushner real estate projects in New Jersey have benefited from the program. Kushner retains an investment in one of them, and has collected millions of dollars from the other, according to his financial disclosure information, the Journal reported.

When Kushner’s sister was making a pitch (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/07/business/trump-kushner-china-investors-visas.html) last year to potential Chinese investors in Shanghai and Beijing, she invoked Kushner’s White House status and presented a slideshow that included a photo of Trump.

Jared Kushner, Shanda

How the scion of one tri-state crime family married into another, in a story equal parts ‘Sopranos’ and ‘Game of Thrones.’

By James Kirchick
...

Book claims Trump's son-in-law Kushner urged sacking of FBI director to protect family fortune

Trusted confidant and the latest expert to join the circle of the best people surrounding Trump, Giuliani is giving a different reason for Comey firing:

Giuliani on why Trump fired Comey — and why Jared Kushner is ‘disposable’

By Robert Schroeder
Published: May 3, 2018

New explanation offered for Comey firing

Rudy Giuliani offered a new explanation of the Comey firing in a Fox News interview. Rudy Giuliani’s comments about President Donald Trump repaying his lawyer are overshadowing a couple other things the former New York mayor said in a Fox News interview: why Trump fired James Comey and Giuliani’s description of Trump's son-in-law.

In a Wednesday-night appearance on Fox, the new member of Trump’s legal team said Trump fired former FBI chief Comey last year since Comey refused to say Trump wasn’t a target of the special counsel’s Russia investigation.

That wasn’t what the White House said when it announced the firing. At the time, the administration cited Comey’s handling of the probe into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. And Trump later told NBC News that he was thinking of “this Russia thing” when he decided to fire Comey. Trump has most recently said the firing wasn’t related to the Russia probe.

Giuliani has outlined terms for a potential Mueller-Trump interview, but suggested on Fox that the special counsel should leave Trump’s daughter Ivanka alone. Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner are both senior White House advisers.
“Jared is a fine man, you know that,” Giuliani told Hannity. “But men are disposable,” he said, laughing. “But a fine woman like Ivanka? Come on.” Giuliani predicted “the whole country will turn on” Mueller if his team targets Trump’s daughter.
