If this is another win for rising White House star Jared Kushner (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?517638-Trump-s-son-in-law-Jared-Kushner-questioned-over-1-15bn-mortgage&), impressive accomplishment:

President Donald Trump on Wednesday commuted the prison sentence of former Iowa slaughterhouse executive Sholom Rubashkin (https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/crime-and-courts/2017/01/26/judge-denies-rubashkin-path-shorten-sentence/96686932/), who was sentenced to 27 years for bank fraud and money laundering, the White House said.
In a statement, the White House said the decision, which is not a presidential pardon, had bipartisan support from leaders across the political spectrum, such as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah). Trump's action does not vacate Rubashkin’s conviction and leaves his term of supervised release and a restitution obligation, the White House said.

Rubashkin, a 57-year-old father of 10 children, oversaw operations at Agriprocessors, a large kosher meatpacking plant owned by his father in the northern Iowa town of Postville. The plant was raided by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in May 2008, leading to the arrests of nearly 400 Mexican and Guatemalan immigrants who were living and working in the country without authorization.

Rubashkin has enjoyed support from his community of Chabad-Lubavitch Jews. After the White House announced the commute, some Orthodox Jews, including outgoing New York City Council member David Greenfield, called the news a Chanukah miracle.
"After years of getting railroaded by the legal system, Sholom Rubashkin is finally going home thanks to (President Trump)," Greenfield, a Democrat who represented the neighborhood where members of Rubashkin's family live, said in a statement on Twitter.

Yeah , but I think the 27 year prison sentence was for bank fraud and money laundering not for illegals .

The immigration tidbit was probably emphasized as a distraction. It will play well with the left and globalists.

I'm giving more thought to DWs suggestion of converting to Judaism for the social contacts.

Isn't that for tax evasion? The highest crime possible against the state. Makes perfect sense when viewed from the proper perspective.

What USA Today (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/12/20/trump-commutes-sentence-kosher-meatpacking-executive/971719001/) says on it is:

So, this guy was railroaded by corrupt government prosecutors?

By that metric, half the people in US prisons deserve a pardon or commutation.

What's so special about this guy?

This initial crimes were far worse than getting money from loans after the FBI raid left them without their illegal employees and they went bankrupt.

The company was a notorious scheme to hire Guatemalans or something . . . an illegal pipeline of meat-packing employees that
after years of FBI investigation was raided - rounding up the illegals.

Where are those illegals now . . . still in USA or did they get deported ?

This decision like the recent Israeli Embassy decision may have been made on request of some big donors possibly.
There is no indication of any blackmail (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?517638-Trump-s-son-in-law-Jared-Kushner-questioned-over-1-15bn-mortgage&p=6566534&viewfull=1#post6566534) type play here that was cited in corruption scandal/bringing down of NJ governor and involved a mega Dem donor/pro Israeli settlements actor few years back.
