Israel And U.S. Hide Names Of Companies Supporting Israeli Settlements

Israel seeks to suppress the identities of the companies that support the settlements because it is feeling the pinch of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.

12/04/2017

In December 2016, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution reaffirming that Israel’s Jewish settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) are illegal and calling on Israel to stop settlement activities in the OPT. Resolution 2334 says the settlements have “no legal validity,” calls them “a flagrant violation under international law,” and demands Israel “immediately and completely cease all settlement activities.”

Nine months earlier, the U.N. Human Rights Council (UNHRC), in Resolution 31/36, had ordered the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights to “produce a database of all business enterprises (https://unispal.un.org/DPA/DPR/unispal.nsf/0/27504FA26B31893385257FDB0074C1FC)” that “directly and indirectly, enabled, facilitated and profited from the construction (http://www.ohchr.org/Documents/HRBodies/HRCouncil/RegularSession/Session22/A-HRC-22-63_en.pdf) and growth of the settlements.”

The database was scheduled for release in December 2017. Meanwhile, the Israeli and U.S. governments have been trying to prevent that list ― which reportedly includes at least 150 local and international companies ― from becoming public. “We will do everything we can to ensure that this list does not see the light of day,” Israel’s U.N. ambassador Danny Danon told The Associated Press (https://www.apnews.com/9f910e5a7b264c38aad504a6147d9898/Israel-races-to-head-off-UN-settlement-%27blacklist). U.S. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said, “We just view that type of blacklist as counterproductive.”

ACLU Sues Over Arizona Law Targeting Anti-Israel Boycotts

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a federal lawsuit challenging an Arizona law prohibiting state contractors from supporting boycotts against Israel.

Dec. 7, 2017
PHOENIX (AP) — The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a federal lawsuit challenging an Arizona (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/arizona) law prohibiting state contractors from supporting boycotts against Israel.

The ACLU filed the lawsuit Thursday for a Sedona attorney who provides legal advice to Coconino County inmates. It says Mikkel Jordahl must sign a statement promising his firm will not boycott Israel in order to have his contract with the county renewed.

The lawsuit says Jordahl boycotts businesses that support Israel's treatment of Palestine and the Arizona law, enacted in March 2016, violates his free speech rights.

The ACLU is already challenging a similar law in Kansas (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/kansas).

By 2050 there won't be a real Israeli state either, so I guess it all balances out.

I'll take the other side of that bet, trends have a way of changing.

Israel offers free abortion and gay weddings are legal & popular (upto 15-20% population was gay if recall old data correctly) too under current US tax payers funded system; neither of these is alllowed in occupied open-air prison camp on Palestinian side. How do you see demographic trends reversing under such circumstances. Also people under tough conditions tend to make more babies compared to people living in economically comfy conditions and US Congress just passed $38 Billion comforting aid package for Israel. Don't see how trends would reverse in foreseeable future.

Everything you describe is a trend, trends have a way of changing.

Israel will still be around in 2050.
