LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Are you a Michigander or a Michiganian?
A new state law favors using the term Michigander.
Gov. Rick Snyder in recent days signed a 13-bill package related to modernizing laws related to historical markers. A portion of one bill defines residents of the state as Michiganders and removes references to the term Michiganians.

Gee, guess 'resident of Michigan' was just too obvious.

The word Michigan is the French version of the Ojibwe word Mishigamma ( large water ). So , after the french were defeated and the british gave up it was then part of the Indiana ( Land of Indians ) Territory for a while . Once home to the Ojibwe , Ottawa and Potawatomi it is most famous for the Battle of Frenchtown ( Battle of River Raisin ) and will stand in history as the highest number of invading americans killed in a battle in the War of 1812 and deadliest conflict on michigan soil . So something french seems right . Nine Kentucky counties are named for Kentuckian officers who did battle at Frenchtown .

Reminds me of an old "Taxi" TV show episode. Jim Ignatowski (Christopher Lloyd) gets obsessed with TV and puts up six of them in his apartment. He was in great suspense as the Delaware legislature was debating calling themselves "Delewareans" or "Delewarites".

Jim's goal seemed trivial to his friends, an entertainment center with 6 TVs, plus video recorders and disk players, because "everything that matters in the world is on TV." As they decide to make a quick exit, and Jim turns on the TVs, one by one they come back and take a seat to watch. Even Alex, half out the door, listens as the Delaware legislature begins to announce the decision, they will be called "Delawarians." Alex rushes back in to argue with the TV, he preferred Delawarites, even though he lives in New York. Ah, the hypnotic power of TV!
