Chris Hurst, a former TV anchor whose girlfriend was shot and killed live on air in 2015, has won the race for the 12th district of Virginia’s House of Delegates.
He and Alison Parker both worked for Roanoke, Virginia, TV station WDBJ when Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were shot to death during a live television broadcast.
Hurst ran against an NRA-endorsed Republican incumbent, Joseph Yost.

According to police officials in Virginia at the time, (https://www.thewrap.com/how-horrifying-wdbj-shooting-could-impact-the-future-of-tv-news-live-shots/) Vester Flanagan, a disgruntled former WDBJ employee who went by the on-air name of Bryce Williams, gunned down Parker and Ward while they were broadcasting live on Aug. 26, 2015. As the tragedy unfolded, viewers heard several shots and saw Parker scream and run. Ward captured an image of the suspect holding a gun as he fell to the ground.

He looks like a liberal girlyman that would get along famously with pervs of all stripes.

How are sympathy votes even a thing?

What kind of utter moron overrides every other important factor of politics to give somebody power as a "lollypop" because something bad happened to them?

"looks like"? His photo is is not in OP news, unless you are speaking figuratively.

Because of his personal tragedy, won't be to quick to criticize based on just few lines of news report unless you have done detailed research on the guy's positions besides guns. Could be wrong, but this may not be a partisan election result.

Edit, Chris H is in this photo:

He is a Demoncrat, he was in the media, he is anti-gun, he is willing to use his GF's death for political purposes, I think I have a pretty good idea of his personality and positions.

He is the cameraman who was also shot/killed with the TV reporter on air.

A girlyman, just as I thought.

In Virginia last nite --- 10 to 12 solid GOP seats just flipped progressive Democrat BLUE
as candidates thought to be closely associated with Donald Trump became political lepers.
Expect more of the same voter backlashing in 2o18 if the GOP never cuts its ties to DJT.

Oh yeah, they're gonna get blown out of the water in 2018, not just because of DJT but because that is what usually happens under a contentious presidency.

Which is why the worthless fuckers better get tax cuts and ObamaCare repealed now.

Wut? DJT is the least of their problems. If you don't have exciting, rebellious candidates on the ballot, you're not going to overcome the slanted media echo chamber. Safe candidates get crushed in blue environments. As Trump proved when he destroyed the vaunted blue wall in the Rust Belt, playing it safe equates to Electoral Death. You have to be willing to punch through the many layers of slander with a cunning zeal.

I'm not saying Corey Stewart would have won, but he certainly would have outperformed the Bushie in the suit. Southern Virginia would have rallied for Stewart.

Virginia's problem is its proximity to D.C. Kind of like NH and Mass.

It's a great place to live, vote, and within driving distance of all those bureaucratic jobs just over the Potomac. Many conservatives look to Virginia as helplessly as the guy in the movies whose buddy falls into the water and gets eaten by piranhas. They're turning blue all right, but I doubt it's an ideological shift as much as it has to do with migration.

Then there's this, which I thought was pretty substantial:
