'Goodbye Pittsburgh Steelers, burn in hell!' NFL fans upset over national anthem protests torch their gear

President Donald Trump's criticism of NFL players who protest the national anthem has sparked strong reactions, to say the least.

His comments prompted many more NFL players to take a knee -- and some teams to stay off the field altogether -- while the anthem was played during Sunday’s games. But they have also prompted many fans to weigh in on social media. Of those upset with the NFL, some are expressing the ultimate form of protest for a sports fan: burning their own team gear and jerseys.

The criticism has been especially fierce from some Pittsburgh Steelers fans. Playing the Bears in Chicago, the team stayed in the tunnel during the national anthem except for one player, Army veteran Alejandro Villanueva. He stood outside with a hand over his heart.

The Steelers made a team decision Saturday night to remain in the tunnel in an attempt to stay out of the political discussion. But that explanation did not sit well with many.
Here is a compilation of some of the #BurnAndBoycott posts from Steelers fans:

‘Sunday Night Football’ Ratings Down Again On Day Of Player Protests

by Dominic Patten September 25, 2017
Associated Press

On a day full of criticism from Donald Trump, political protests, linked arms, players taking a knee or not coming on the field at all during the national anthem, and renewed pleas for unity from the league, NBC and the NFL took a ratings hit on Sunday Night Football.

In metered market numbers, the primetime matchup that saw the Washington Redskins beat the Oakland Raiders 27-10 snared an 11.6/20, the worst SNF has performed this season so far. It’s an 8% dip from the early numbers of last week’s game, Atlanta’s 34-23 win over Green Bay. Amid cheers and boos from fans at FedEx Field in Maryland last night, the third week of the SNF season declined 10% from early numbers of the comparable game of last year on September 25, 2016.

Sunday’s SNF peaked with a 12.r5/20 during the second quarter from 9-9:30 PM ET. Still, NFL ratings are down double-digits this season so far after taking a similar tackle-for-loss last year. Add to that, Sunday’s game was the worst a Week 3 SNF has done in 11-years.

But seeing the teams reactions after his comment might have been the final straw.

Either that, or it has nothing to do with politics, and everything to do with the cheating.

Hey, Goodell. Try letting the best team win all season, for a change, and see what happens to your ratings. You know what to do--tell your officials to use the same standard for holding calls for both teams. At this point, what have you got to lose?

The NFL should have done what the Steelers did: leave teams in the locker room during the pre-game activities. And they should have done that before the season started.

But their lack of getting ahead of this leaves them in a real bind. Hate to tell the NFL, but their customers are not all SJWs, Antifa and BLM members. Leftists are probably a minority of their customers, even though it may be the majority at ESPN.

They screwed themselves good.

It's kinda scary how what the Steelers did was so misinterpreted by the media (including social media).

Basically, they said, as a team, "We're here to play football - not make political statements", and tried to stay out of the controversy. Instead, it was portrayed as some kind of team boycott of the anthem. Craziness.

Then, Villanueva stepped too far out of the tunnel and then the same media portrayed him as a hero. Then, he apologized for screwing up and making it look like he was the only one on his team who supported the anthem and then the same media portrayed him as a coward for "apologizing for paying respect to the flag". You couldn't make this up!

That whole incident should serve as an example of how the media can take any situation and play it how they want.

NASCAR ratings are down too. Is that because they protest? Or Trump?

http://awfulannouncing.com/racing/nascar-ratings-getting-even-worse-season.html

NASCAR ratings are getting even worse this season

While not maybe at a “make or break” point, NASCAR poured a lot of effort into trying to reverse their long-suffering ratings slide. There’s a brand new points system, races have been fundamentally changed, the series has a new sponsor, and drivers are getting into fights on pit road.

NASCAR has been trying almost everything. And thus far, nothing is working.

It’s still early days in the 2017 season but after the Daytona 500 the sport has seen its poor ratings continuing to slip slide away. While Daytona viewership increased 5% over last year to 11.9 million viewers, each race since has been down versus last year. And the last three races have been down significantly.

And what's with the open stadium Lombardy Trophy presentation? What happened to the old days of presenting in the locker room, with players pouring champagne all over themselves and everyone else? That was a ratings worthy spectacle. Instead of being forced to stand out on some cold tundra that they just spent 3 hours exhausting themselves on. The interviews and player comments are far less authentic.

I want to say that I see traveling on at least every third or fourth transition. Though that's a wild guess. Anyone know how many possessions there are in a typical NBA game? Divide by four and I'd say that's a conservative estimate. Don't forget the abundance of players moving their pivot foot. Happens endlessly.

I'm seeing crazy good passing in the current NBA. The Warriors excel at it. Just the stupid traveling and palming ruins the entire game. The fans are all in denial that it's just big time wrestling. Although, in support of your point, I read that Pete Maravich made enemies on his own team by making them look bad with their flubbing his magical and unsuspecting passes that were ahead of their time.

A Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/Boycott-The-NFL-119285205413259/) now has more than 70,000 members calling for a boycott of all NFL games on Veterans Day weekend, Nov. 12-13.
The group is encouraging people to avoid watching football on both Sunday and Monday to show support for veterans.
The Facebook event states: “We will be not be watching or listening to NFL games on November 12th in solidarity with veterans around the country, as football players have continued to disrespect the national anthem, the American flag, and everything our nation stands for.”

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Tens of thousands upset over NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem are planning a boycott of the NFL.

Beef O’Brady’s file photo
The owner of Beef O’Brady’s (https://www.beefobradys.com/Beavercreek) restaurant in Beavercreek said he had a large crowd Thursday night following his declaration that he will not air NFL games while players protest during the playing of the national anthem.
“The response was just remarkable last night. We had people coming in that had never been to our restaurant,” said Beef O’Brady’s owner Bill DeFries, who estimated the eatery did three times the business it normally does on a Thursday night.

The protest worked so well that the owner made a decision on the spot to never again have NFelonsL games in his restaurant. He looked at the research and realized that he could afford losing the business of woemen, manjinas and minorities :)

Federal bailout is the answer.

Or a mandate to buy tickets.

Yep, and buying brand new merchandise to replace their burned $#@!.

Actually, you are more likely to go back to the NFL if you sell as opposed to burning your NFL merchandise. I would wager good money that the population who quit the NFL without destroying their merchandise would have a high rate of relapse than those who quit the NFL and destroyed their merchandise.

So it might sound crazy but those guys know what they are doing :)

Former President Barack Obama on Monday bemoaned the fight over kneeling during the national anthem between President Donald Trump and the NFL, saying the country can't even keep politics out of football.
Obama spoke at a health care conference sponsored by brokerage firm Cantor-Fitzgerald, for which he was paid $400,000. While his prepared remarks centered on health care, the New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/25/business/obama-healthcare-speech.html?emc=edit_tnt_20170925&nlid=1811197&tntemail0=y&_r=0) noted that at the end of his speech, he alluded to the controversy embroiling the NFL.

"Our big problem right now is politics," he said. "Can't even get it out of football!"

Surprising blow back. The fans side with Trump. I'm starting to think maybe he does play 4-D chess.

Trump handed the NFL a loaded pistol, and the NFL defiantly shot itself in the head.

These protests seem dangerous also especially considering what heppened to French minority athlete Nicolas Anelka after his protest on the field. What if someone accidentally or due to muscle malfunction forgot to close fist when photos are being taken:

It makes me quite happy to see this league implode!

Wait, did he really say that?

He had his swarms of SJWs mobilized and motivated to push politics into everything, everywhere, all the time!

Or rather the vocal fans? I don't think all of the "protestors" supporting Obamacare at republican town hall meetings proves anything either. Whoever is feeling the most butthurt at any given moment is the side who "protests." I already know people who were planning on boycotting the NFL prior to Trump's statements but doing it in support of Kaepernick. As far as I know, Kaepernick hasn't been picked up. So.....who's protesting what?

People are just tired of all the black power this and black lives matter that.

Injecting racism during one of what many view as a somewhat sacred moment at the beginning of the football game is childish and I think people are tired of the amount of attention these attention seekers are getting. People love their USA and football. The BLM stuff is distracting and annoying.
