Equifax Is Not Your Friend: Should Everyone Freeze Their Account?
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-09-18/equifax-not-your-friend-should-everyone-freeze-their-account

Unless you intend to open up new credit cards, get a car loan, or home equity loan, etc,
there is every reason to freeze your account and be done with it....
Everyone else should monitor their accounts closely."

These guys are in charge of safeguarding consumers vital information.
Should be careful when acting on their "customer service" advice:

For weeks, Equifax customer service has been directing victims to a fake phishing site

Earlier this month, hackers broke into Equifax's servers (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&ved=0ahUKEwjTqY-gnbTWAhWG3SYKHUJzAlAQFghDMAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theverge.com%2F2017%2F9%2F7% 2F16270808%2Fequifax-data-breach-us-identity-theft&usg=AFQjCNEXpvh8ZxoJCBB9VpAsdE32gL-mSA) and stole 143 million people's personal information, including their Social Security numbers. In response to the attack, Equifax set up a website — www.equifaxsecurity2017.com (http://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com) — for possible victims to verify whether they're affected. Because the process involves sharing sensitive information, consumers have to trust they're entering their data in the right place, which can be tricky because the breach-recovery site itself isn’t part of equifax.com. If users end up on the wrong site, they could end up leaking the data they're already concerned was stolen.

Today, Equifax ended up creating that exact situation on Twitter. In a tweet to a potential victim, the credit bureau linked to securityequifax2017.com, instead of equifaxsecurity2017.com. It was an easy mistake to make, but the result sent the user to a site with no connection to Equifax itself. Equifax deleted the tweet shortly after this article was published, but it remained live for nearly 24 hours.

These tweets have also since been deleted.

This whole case is beginning to look like it was done on purpose.

Remember when the entire financial world fell apart because of banks acting badly, bailed out by the taxpayers, and all those people were put in jail for making a fortune at the expense of everyone else?

Yeah, me neither.

Looks like Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp is getting her wish. After demanding that "somebody needs to go to jail" (https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-09-12/somebody-goes-jail-senator-says-equifax-execs-should-face-criminal-investigation) during a Congressional hearing about the Equifax breach late last year, the Department of Justice on Wednesday charged Jun Ying, the former chief information officer of one Equifax business unit, with insider trading, claiming he knowingly sold shares before the company revealed a massive data breach last year.
