In less than two weeks, a WhiteHouse.gov petition (https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/declare-george-soros-terrorist-and-seize-all-his-related-organizations-assets-under-rico-and-ndaa-law) demanding that billionaire investor George Soros be declared a “domestic terrorist,” and that authorities seize his multibillion-dollar fortune, has garnered nearly enough signatures to force the Trump administration to issue a formal response.
The petition, which has attracted 80,000 signatures so far - just 20,000 shy of the 100,000-signature threshold where a response would be required – accuses Soros of being guilty of sedition by financing groups that help support violent Antifa counter-protesters and other dangerous leftist groups.

Last week, we reported (http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-08-21/petition-label-antifa-terrorist-organization-reaches-critical-milestone)that a similar petition, this one asking that President Donald Trump declare Antifa to be a terrorist group, had reached the threshold. The petition is still awaiting a formal response, but in one promising development, Politico reported today that the Department of Homeland Security had described the group’s actions as “domestic terrorist violence” in private memos.
Over the past week, the mainstream media narrative has turned decidedly against Antifa, with the Washington Post, Bloomberg and the Atlantic publishing stories criticizing the group’s violent tactics.

Specifically, the Soros petition accuses the Hungarian-born billionaire of using the “Alinsky model” of terrorist tactics to destabilize the US social order. Saul Alinsky was a Chicago-based community organizer who wrote the infamous “Rules for Radicals," a book meant to be a guide to aid leftists in the violent overthrow of the US government.

How about a petition to do away with the whole legal category of "terrorism," along with "hate crime," and just treat crimes for what they are, rather than what thoughts the people committing them supposedly had?

Petition to do away with all demagoguery and anyone who disagrees can get out. Free speech and free thoughts or GTFO.

That's a great idea, but let's wait until *after* Soros gets his just deserts (http://www.dictionary.com/e/just-deserts/).

Petition to do away with petitions. They're populist nonsense leading to more laws.

Are Soros' assets in any location where they can be "seized" by the U.S. government? Other than a few petty cash checking accounts?

I doubt it. If he did, he doesn't as of this petition. :p

Pffft...tired of hearing about Soros as if he's some magical Emmanuel Goldstein, hiding behind every rock and tree, pulling millions of puppets on strings.

Naive, childish bullshit.

Does he donate money to some of the leftist leadership groups? Sure.

But the enemy is in the mind of your neighbors and fellow AmeriKunts, who have failed to learn any lessons from history, and hate liberty, and you.

And even more importantly, they hate themselves, with a burning loathing that even I find hard to describe at times.

This is not even a case of "just wanting to watch the world burn".

If it takes comparisons to fictional characters like those portrayed in the Andy Griffith show or Adam-12, to penetrate the dull corpus of the body politic then so be it.

And if it takes crucifying a rich, totalitarian warmonger, who this mainstream propaganda machine has been playing up as some kind of liberal paragon of mercy and light, to 'penetrate the dull corpus', then so be that as well. Could work better on waking young people up to the true motivations of these 'icons of liberal compassion' than referencing some silly, fifty year old television shows.

When you convince them to stop wearing Che t-shirts, I'll listen.

AntiFed, I agree with a lot of what you say, and can understand your sentiment. . .

but I have to disagree regarding the power of the media and its role and influence in shaping peoples worldviews and emotions.

I think it plays a much greater role than most people realize.

"The Media", while certainly parroting the government line at all times, is losing influence, readership, viewership and impact by the day.

I think what we are seeing is a manifestation of social media "hive mind".

It is very disturbing to see so many un/misinformed people that hold to ideas that are a threat to liberty.

I absolutely agree.

Seems like bit of double standard. People like Bob Dylan and Nelson Mandela were once labelled "terrorists" without petitions.

Don't expect a response to any of the petitions. https://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2017-04-18/white-house-considers-dumping-petition-site

It has been more of a "vent" site than one which results in any actual action on anything. Gives the illusion of participation.

White House Considers Dumping Petition Site

After announcing Friday it will no longer voluntarily release visitor logs, the White House is considering eliminating the popular petitions site We the People.

A decision to end the service would be seen as a setback for accountability by many critics of President Donald Trump, but as the end of a soft-news gimmick by others.

The site, launched on the White House website in 2011, was deftly used by the Obama administration to generate positive press. Since January, it has served largely as a sounding board for Trump opponents.

More than 1 million people, for example, have demanded that Trump publish his tax returns. Another petition that's passed 100,000 signatures – a time-sensitive threshold set by the Obama administration to earn an official response – tells Trump to resign.

None of the Trump-era petitions have been given a response, and White House Communications Director Mike Dubke tells U.S. News the site's fate is in limbo.

"This decision is still under review," Dubke says.

Cost, he says, is "always" a consideration.

Under President Barack Obama, the site was criticized by some as a propaganda tool, as petitions that challenged the administration went years without answer while goofy, softball or more politically convenient ones got a response.

Nate Lubin, director of the White House Office of Digital Strategy from 2013 to 2015, says the site would have value even if the Trump administration gave skimpy non-answers.

“That would be unfortunate – but it would be better than nothing,” he says. “As we experienced when I was there, there were certain petitions that we could not give substantive responses to, for legitimate reasons. The main point, though, is that any White House should be following a commitment to giving the people a chance to tell leadership what they think.”

Lubin says third-party petition sites like Change.org, Avaaz and MoveOn aren’t equal alternatives unless there’s some new commitment to issue responses.

And cost-savings, he says, would not be a convincing rationale for ending the site.

“Most costs, regardless, relate to expanding features or improving the tools [and] even if they chose not to invest in improving the platform, maintaining the status quo should be well within their budgets,” Lubin says.

Still, a White House official last week cited relatively meager savings of $70,000 through 2020 to justify nixing Open.gov, a website that hosted White House visitor logs.

Dave Karpf, a George Washington University media and public affairs professor, says he's not surprised the Trump White House is considering elimination of the petition service.
