The Capital District Region is currently fundraising for Ron Paul radio ads through the Albany RP PAC (www.albanyrp.com (http://www.albanyrp.com)). It has already raised $1500 for this project and there is a ChipIN to raise an additional $5,000 to have enough air time throughout January and up through the primary on February 5th. We will be using WGY 810 AM which is a conservative talk radio with over 50,000 watts that reaches most of upstate NY, Vermont, Massachusetts, and even some of New Hampshire and over 30 states at night.

Creating Your Own Radio Campaign
If your organization is interested in creating local or even statewide radio campaign, here are a few suggestions to get you going.

1) Find the right radio station that maximizes exposure to your target market of conservative Republicans for the funding you think you an reasonably expect to raise. Be realistic, most of the money will come from your own meetup/organization and surrounding groups unless you are doing a statewide/national campaign.

2) Contact the advertising sales staff of the radio station or have your ad agency call them and get a price sheet for political rates. They also provide targeted marking information and statistics based on time slots of the day (morning rush, lunch, evening drive, etc.). Political rate start dates varies per station, but is typically 30+ days before an election/primary.

3) Choose the right ad or set of ads for your local area and important voter issues. You can consider using the main campaign existing radio ads, use the ad Albany will be using, create your own, or work with Ron Paul supporters who are volunteering their audio engineering services on www.ronpaulforums.com. In our research we found 60 second ads to be very cost effective over 30 second ads.

4) Figure out a way of funding it. If you are a rich and giving person and can pay for it 100% and its still 30 days before the primary, you can try to do it on your own. See a lawyer first. Otherwise you should consider using a PAC such as the Albany RP PAC (www.albanyrp.com) in NY to raise the money and pay for it under FEC guidelines.

I have worked in radio and I can tell you that one of the biggest mistakes I saw was spreading the ads to thinly. Radio ads need to be repeated to the listeners to have any effect. It is better to group your ads in a small period of time than run them all day and night but never building frequency with the listeners.

As a rule of thumb, run one ad per hour in a give time period.
