A golf journalist is standing by his report that President Trump called the White House a "dump" despite Trump's claim that it's "totally untrue."

Alan Shipnuck told Golf Magazine that eight or nine people heard Trump call the White House a dump.

Shipnuck published a report about Trump’s golfing hobby in Sports Illustrated this week, which included the revelation that Trump called the president’s house a “real dump” compared to his New Jersey country club.

Shipnuck told Golf Magazine that a White House spokeswoman called him to demand a retraction for the statement but that he would not do so because he heard it from multiple people and that he believes they are credible sources.

“It might be inconvenient for her boss and she might wish he didn’t say it, but it’s not a lie,” he said.

“They definitely don’t waste any time trying to be charming or friendly, these people in the White House communications department,” he added.

After the initial report was released, Trump took to Twitter to deny the claim, adding “I love the White House, one of the most beautiful buildings (homes) I have ever seen.”

It might be true. Again, Trump does not *need* to be President. Coming to Washington was truly a step down for him in lifestyle.

Just reading down through the years, it does not seem that Congress knows how much it costs to maintain "The People's House." Jackie Kennedy did quite a makeover/restoration of the White House when she was First Lady. Even then, she could not believe how small the budget was and how much people wanted to milk the government for money for reproduction fabric, furniture, and wallpaper. She and the curator climbed through warehouses of furniture looking for real antiques. I've seen some of the restoration efforts at historical sites and the price to reproduce period furniture or wallpaper is just ridiculous. Even with modern technology, the prices are in an orbit all their own.

A lot of people note that the White House looks somewhat shabby. Trump is not known for keeping his own counsel about anything, so I'm not surprised that he would say this. He is fastidious, and he likes things clean and well maintained. He is already giving his salary to charity and whatever, I can understand his frustration to have to live and work in a place that everyone wants, but nobody wants to pay for.

Not really sure in this day and age if it is necessary for the people to spend money to maintain it, probably be easier to just lease part of a nice Marriott or something and use the naval observatory . What I do care about is the constant golf playing and fucking off . Sends the wrong message . As someone who will build your reproduction furniture I find it insulting that anyone would think that a craftsman can reproduce another mans design for around the same money they can go to Ethan Allen and purchase imported/mass produced facsimiles...Most times quality old-growth, period correct timber will cost more than Joe/Jane Doe thinks a piece should cost..
