At our GOP meeting I gave a speech for our candidate. Most of the people there are over 50 and all fairly neo-con in nature. Supporters ranged from Romney, to McCain, to Huckabee, to Giuliani. I had been fairly friendly and conversational to all of them without letting any of them know who I support. Well, tonight they found out. Here is how the speech went:

"Who here wants to see our next president be a Republican?!"

:Cheers

"Well, a couple months back I was doing my due diligence to find a candidate I could support. I used the internet to go to each candidate's website and check out their issues. To me all that matters is the issues. I don't care how popular they are or how much they are on TV. Where they stand is what is important to me. Well there was one candidate that when I came across what he stood for, I found myself saying, "This is a guy I can stand behind."

paused:

"As hard as this may be to swallow, a poll has shown that over 70% of the population wants a withdrawal of our troops from Iraq and does not want our military to continue nation building there. You see, it doesn't matter what candidate makes it as the Republican Parties nominee if they do not win come next November. I do not want a socialist in office next term. I do not want a president who will spend and tax us more. Like you, I want a Republican president next year, and that will not happen if he is for maintaining a permanent presence in Iraq. There is only one Republican candidate that I was able to find that would withdraw our troops from Iraq and stop this nation building over there and that is Ron Paul.

Like I said, it doesn't matter who wins the nomination if they don't win next November's vote. A recent poll in Iowa showed that about half of Republicans support a withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

I ask you to reconsider your candidate and take a close look at Ron Paul. We all want a Republican president next year."

So, how did the audience receive your speech?

So, how did the audience receive your speech?

The mormons in the room, who were dead set on Mitt, and others who are dead set on certain candidates, gave a fairly cold shouldered response. However, there were a lot of people who were undecided that really took some consideration to what was said. There was a good amount of clapping at the end. It was more of a practice run for the speech I'll be giving on caucus night. I wasn't really expecting anything from it. However, there was a fella that I have been talking to that said he's really leaning toward Ron Paul. That's good to hear.
