U.S. SANCTIONS ON RUSSIA WON’T BE LIFTED UNTIL CRIMEA IS RETURNED TO UKRAINE: REX TILLERSON

The United States will not lift sanctions on Russia until President Vladimir Putin hands Crimea back to Ukraine, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said late Sunday.

During a phone call with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Tillerson said the sanctions—which have crippled Russia’s economy and pushed down the value of the ruble—will “ remain in place until Russia returns control of the Crimean peninsula to Ukraine.”

He also said that Moscow must honor the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine that was outlined in the Minsk agreements, according to a State Department official.

Trump expects Russia to return Crimea to Ukraine: White House

U.S. President Donald Trump made it clear he expects Russia to return Crimea to Ukraine and reduce violence in Ukraine, White House spokesman Sean Spicer said on Tuesday.

"President Trump has made it very clear that he expects the Russian government to de-escalate violence in the Ukraine and return Crimea," Spicer said at a daily news briefing. "At the same time, he fully expects to and wants to get along with Russia."

Russia: 'We're not returning our territory' Crimea to Ukraine

Russia's Foreign Ministry has indicated that it intends to keep Crimea and not return it to Ukraine because it considers it to be part of Russia.

Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters Wednesday during a weekly news conference: "We're not returning our territory. Crimea is part of the Russian Federation."

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Tuesday that Trump had been taking a tough line with Russia and that he expected Moscow to withdraw from the region, which it occupied following a "full-scale invasion" in 2014.

Crimea leaving the Russian Federation obviously not going to happen. Most likely resolution is that Russia agrees to forgive Kiev's natural gas debt as "compensation" for Crimea.

Asked about Stoltenberg’s remarks, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists in Moscow
that “Russia has never had and has no servicemen in Ukraine.”

Stoltenberg’s visit comes one day after U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visited Kyiv
and offered strong support for Ukraine,
stressing that Russia must take the necessary steps to end the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

Trump gave no definition for "solved". Thus he can declare the issue solved whenever he wants. Russia has already agreed to Minsk II Protocols so Trump can declare that "solved" based on that alone whenever he wants and Syria could be "solved" by something as simple as Russia lobbing a cruz missile at ISIS and "proving" it is joined with the US in fighting terror. Trump always sets the conditions to where he can win on his mere say so.

So in other words, when Washington stops its meddling in Ukraine and Syria.

Or when they are all dead.

Death solves all problems. No man No problem. JOSEPH STALIN

I hope your interpretation is correct but I will tend to expect the Stalinist one until Dump brings the boys and drones back home.

Western investors pour money into Russia through offshores

According to the Russian Central Bank, the Bahamas and Bermuda provided 25% of direct investment to Russia last year, which is more than the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany, Japan and China invested in total. A source close to the Ministry of Finance told Izvestia that offshores are used by residents of Western countries who are prohibited from investing in Russia because of the current sanctions, but want to cash in on Russia’s high returns.

With the introduction of sanctions in 2014, offshores have dominated the financial flows. Over the past three years, inflows from the Bahamas and Bermuda have surged from $5.4 bln to $8.2 bln. "This trend has a fairly simple explanation, residents of Western countries who had been investing in Russia earlier, now do it through offshores for political reasons,"
