I think people should really think about doing this.

Roughly 2 million people pass through Times Square each day and crowds are much larger on the weekends. And those video screens are huge and really stand out.

I strongly encourage people to endorse this project.

Of all the projects that we have created, I think this is one of the most brilliant. I wished I thought of it.

Kudos to vadimg

I just have a couple questions . . .

First off, sounds like a phenomenal idea . . .

- Are we sure $50k is a good price? One drawback of Paul proclaiming they were having trouble finding ways to spend all the money they've got, along with the high visibility of the blimp project -- I just want to make sure they're not scamming the grassroots.

- This will be a Sunday. Presumably that doesn't matter in the big NYC? Is Times Square still hopping all day Sundays? I assume it is, given the shopping season & all, but can we get some testamony from New Yorkers?

Is there any sound from the screens or just vision? It would be cool if there was a "liberty bell" ring for every million raised, or something.

Vadim - you never answered my question in the other thread. Do you have all the FEC crap figured out? Don't you need a PAC?

To answer your questions: for NyC that is a competitive price. Everything in NyC is expensive.

Sunday is very packed with regular New Yorkers and tons of American tourists as well as international tourists. Whether Saturday or Sunday- it's packed with people!

There is no sound on any of the video screens in Times Square. But I guarantee you will remember most of them when you visit because they all stand out.

No there are no sounds on any signs

here is what one yorker says

I'm all in... if you haven't been to Time Square on a sunday afternoon, then you really have no idea how packed that place is with tourists/people

The MSM should/will pick this up.. especially since it will show in real time just how serious we are about winning this thing

There are TONS of people there on the weekend!!! This will definitely get a lot of exposure. Place is like a zoo!!! And I am not kidding!

The weekends are the biggest days in Times Square. Regular New Yorkers basically never go there - most things are tacky and way over priced. So it's people on their vacation, and people tend to vacation on weekends.

You know, come to think of it. Why can't the campaign just pay for this? We come up with these great ideas, but it seems they are MIA when it comes time to pay up. What's up with that?

As for the PAC, maybe the IA PAC could be used? I forget the name of it.

vadimg,

Couple of things:

1) have you talked to the campaign/Trevor yet?
2) Can you get the chip in to update or get it on the forums home page?
3) Can we have a little bio on you before we donate?

Campaigning is against FEC regulations?? Why can't the official campaign pick up the tab for things like this?

Maybe it's better for them to spend money elsewhere, but they should be allowed to do something like this, right?

Wow. This started as a casual question, just to make sure you've dotted the i's and crossed the t's, but I've asked it three times now, with no answer, and every time you have answered questions that were posted *after* mine.

This is attempt four - and I will not donate until this is answered. In fact, if it is not answered by Tuesday afternoon, I'm going to make a fuss, because based on my (admittedly very limited) understanding of FEC law, this is not legit without a PAC, and I don't want anyone getting suckered or the campaign hurt.

I was supporting this idea in the beginning, and now I'm just furious. Answer the god damn question.

PayPal fees would take out an extra $1,450.

most companies are going to charge between 2% and 3%, and usually a per transaction fee of 15 cents or so, so either way a big chunk of change goes to credit processing

Reposted to main thread: Think it looks a little like boasting and at simple monetary amounts if we put the total up there. Realistically, candidates have had more personal wealth then what we've raised.

If we had ads that celebrate the actual Boston tea party historical event, that would be good. This however could backfire from its intended effect unless that part of it is modified.

Zoom!!! Way over my head!

I cannot see how this can be negative in anyway. This is probably the best idea that has come up in a while. Too bad it was thought of a little late. But hey, it is still early, hopefully we can raise enough by tonight.

KewlRonduderules

I think it is broken or he has not updated it. I've seen written posts where people have donated. it is more than that amount on the chip-in.

The live donation counter is the only reason I consider the $50k worth it. Otherwise it's just another ad, and a very expensive one for only a few thousand people wandering around.
