Hawkish senator cheers neocon shift, says president 'is growing and he is listening'

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd that he “hoped” President Donald Trump was being drawn into the so-called “Washington establishment” during an interview Sunday.

Ever since Trump ordered an airstrike in Syria in retaliation for the chemical attack that killed more than 80 Syrian civilians earlier in April, he has received increasing praise from the neoconservative wing of the Republican Party.

When Todd pointed to those who say “the Washington establishment sucked [Trump] in” and compromised his conservative populism and “America first” agenda, McCain unequivocally expressed his glee at the prospect.

“I hope so!” McCain said before laughing.

Tube? To me it reads more like: "I hope trump has already succumbed to the establishment. Like a past tense type of thing?

I have no love for Trump. That being said, I really wish we could get rid of people like McCain in office. Trouble there is that the guy is a weed. Get rid of him and his replacement is pretty much guaranteed to be exactly like him. Trump was right about there existing a swamp in DC and it needs to be drained. Trump however is just more swamp...

McCain was broken in Viet Nam. To him resistance is futile. Working with one's captors is the only way he knows.

I'm torn. Deciding which version of Trump is worse, the DC establishment version or the leftwing extremist version, is a tough call.

If rearranging a bunch of boulders in Afghanistan, with the biggest conventional bomb evahh..... isn't nut sucking up to the establishment war mongers, then I guess someone may have to explain to me what is.

Regime change, boondoggle wars and nation building.

I would prefer to end all four elements of our foreign policy - but with Trump we end the three worst, the three that by far benefit the deep state the most.

It doesn't really matter. He is the statist that he is, but considering the supreme court has been saved from Hillary Clinton, the Trump presidency is already a win. The rest will be more typical statism with a chance for some outside the box thinking here and there.

Saved? You mean the clowns in gowns could get shit more wrong? Personally I think a liberal pick would have created a "shit or get of the pot" situation w/ regard to those that believe we do not need the governmental limitations enshrined need to be Consplained to us.
