I was expecting everything about Gorsuch this week. Well, before Rice got ratted out on by her former agency.
CO Dem Senator Bennett had headlines in Denver Post that he won't filibuster, anyway.

Isn't it time to stop pretending SCOTUS is a non-partisan body?

All in reaction to Harry Reid's tyranny as Senate Majority leader. He blocked anything and everything that was not completely (DNC) partisan.
The Constitution does not set the size of the Senate majority required for confirmation, thus a simple majority is assumed. A 2/3 majority is specified for treaties. Perhaps they should have also specified 2/3 for Supreme Court Justices, but they didn't.
In hindsight, they should have set a timeline, for example, President shall nominate within 60 calendar days, Senate shall vote within 60 calendar days of nomination.
Section 2.
The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States; he may require the opinion, in writing, of the principal officer in each of the executive departments, upon any subject relating to the duties of their respective offices, and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.
He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and all other officers of the United States, whose appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by law: but the Congress may by law vest the appointment of such inferior officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the courts of law, or in the heads of departments.
The President shall have power to fill up all vacancies that may happen during the recess of the Senate, by granting commissions which shall expire at the end of their next session.

And if we do that, then its probably time to get up the lifetime appointments as well.

Was Harry Reid shortsighted? Was he long on Hillary? Was he a Republican deep asset?

When it took two thirds vote they were more non- partisan or at least close to the middle politically. Now that it only takes half it is easier to get through more partisan candidates. Conservatives need to keep that in mind when the pendulum swings to the left again and they find themselves in the minority again. Then they will be the ones complaining.

What pendulum Zip ?
I know it is a half hour long, but above tube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jOkVxBDBVk ) is very good -
(Gorsund's "bigly" bastardazination of the English language came in a subsequent "round" with the same Senator from Nebraska btw)

If enough of a bunch of Democrats are not gonna accept this POTUS nominee,
then they were not gonna accept anyone, as retribution for the nominee after Scalia's untimely death under Obama.

The Pendulum of Power swings between favoring the liberals and the conservatives. No party stays in control forever. Opposition parties blocking current party nominees has been going on for a long time though they have been getting worse at simply voting party lines. Republicans blocked hundreds of Obama judicial nominees and refused to have a vote on his last Supreme Court nominee. Now they get upset when Democrats do the same thing to them. Both parties do it.

Dems wanted to wait how long to fill the POTUS seat, for politics only to keep it at 4-4 ?
With 23 Dem Senators up for re-election in 2018, I guess they'd have a year and a half -
then the pendulum moves even farther away to the right ?

People vote for one party- seeking a change and then over time realize things aren't that different so they vote for the other party for the same reason- change.

To win the Senate in the next midterm election, the Democrats would need to be victorious in something like 28 out of 33 races- since most of the seats up for voting are theirs.

Yeah, how many will they lose to bring the GOP majority closer to 60 ?
Freshman Indiana Dem Senator is on the chopping block . . .
and the handful of the Senate woman, but Dianne Feinstein is probably safe.
