Dave Rubin is disgustingly pro-Isreal and for all his talk of being open and willing to discuss other views, will throw a conniption if you show anti-Israeli sentiments.

He's an intellectual lightweight, and, IMO, likely doing what he does because he sees it as a way to capture Patreon money.

This ^^^. Loads of people are jumping on the anti SJW bandwagon for the money, making videos and writing rebuttal articles against the most obscure and powerless people on the internet. Its a money gambit not some awakening.

It is also encouraging. Finally a liberal gaining attention for turning on liberals like TYT and the left and learning to become classical liberal. People like Sam Harris, Glenn Greenwald, Bill Maher supporters are more of the type to look at him with acceptance and get turned on to learning more about classical liberal ideas. You are right he is a lightweight, but he has gone through a process many on the left are starting to walk down and they look to him as guidance.

Because let's be frank, they don't hold views unless they are popular. Much of what was said BY the Merkelstan and Dr. No is exactly why this is a good video for those becoming alienated by the left.

"Classical Liberals"...has such a broad definition, doesn't it? I've heard it mean "basically libertarian" to basically "pure centerist", equally balanced between authoritarianism/anarchy and marxism/capitalism.

Sam Harris, Greenwald, and Maher really have very different beliefs, from each other and from Dave Rubin. They might all like each other (Greenwald hates them all), but Sam and Greenwald have strong socialist tendencies. Frankly, Rubin probably does as well, but doesn't really talk about them since he doesn't want to alienate his fanbase.

It does, which is why them having these little transition periods is a time where they can be influenced with rational thinking. Sometimes by those engaged into talking with them like Nick did. Their public change of heart gives others who think like them and currently are having these mixed feelings something to think about.

The above discussion is why we can't have nice things. I've been sending Rubin Report episodes to my liberal/progressive friends (sorry, I live in NYC, it happens) for many months now. It helps calm the hysteria and promote actual discussion. I've found him to be a very useful "1st step" for such people. If you can't appreciate the importance, nay, the necessity of a 1st step, you're the problem.

Edit: The key to the video in the OP is that he went from a rabid progressive to someone voting libertarian and promoting thinkers and speakers who support the liberty movement/Ron. If you don't want to know how to change minds, dont watch the video. But if that's the case, why be on a forum at all?

Try listening to his podcast. This isn't a one time thing, and I don't think it's an act.

If it is, he's doing a damn good job of promoting interests related to the liberty movement whilst acting

Frankly, I think that showing videos of Ron Paul is going to convert a lot of liberals to liberty-based ideas. Ron is a great messenger. People like Ben Shapiro are also very good. Ben Shapiro is a neocon, but he doesn't pander; he believes what he believes and isn't trying to get clicks. Dave Rubin comes off as so pandering and money-grubbing that I don't think he convinces people...plus, he never really does convince people. He lets his guest do the talking, with very little fact-checking or debating.

On Rubin "changing", he himself has said he's pretty much the same as he always was, maybe 15% more to the right on economic issues.

This represents a sign of things to come. Some progressive liberals have had it with the Democrats or are Bernie supporters that believed in his message, only to see him sell his soul and capitulate to Hillary. I think they are beginning to come to the same realizations many of us came to decades ago.

This thing we call government is beyond broken and electing and reelecting in the same old people will do nothing to help most American people. Rubin recognizes this. He's already making steps in a better direction and I could see him being a full blown libertarian within a few years.

To the naysayers in this thread: Is it not good that we have people from the left coming to agree with the ideas of limited government and conservative fiscal policy? I thought that's what Ron Paul and the libertarian movement were about, spreading good ideas and getting people on board with these notions through education. Seems like it is paying off.

lol...people can't even explore our ideas and find common ground with us without getting bitched-fested.

This is why our ideas will never go anywhere meaningful.

Ron is a known entity. They have their guard up. They want to disagree.

Get your "conservative" friends with Ron, liberal ones with Rubin.

Rubin's interview with... BEN SHAPIRO, for example, is a great way to show them that calling him a "racist" is just absurd.
