If claims of President Trump and Iraqi gov are valid, scores of civilian deaths at the civilians shelter in Mosul Iraq past week were caused by an "Obama founded" group that had been also linked to horrific bloodbaths in Syria, Libya and other regions in recent years.
Below Iraqi gov claim has not been confirmed independently yet and at this point should be seen as "official claim" only:

Iraq says deadly Mosul incident was no airstrike but an ISIS car bomb

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Iraqi military has denied that it was an airstrike that claimed at least 100 civilians lives in Western Mosul on March 17, citing an investigation by military experts that shows no sign of an airstrike against a house where the casualties were said to have taken shelter.

The Iraqi military’s Joint Command released a statement on Saturday chronicling the events on the given date in both Mosul al-jadida where the house was located, and the adjacent district of al-Risala.

The statement confirmed that the US-led anti-ISIS international coalition carried out an airstrike against ISIS positions in Western Mosul at the request of the Iraqi government.

Source though does not appear as misleading as FakeStream Media, still should be read with caution as they tend to have pro Russia/Trump, anti-ISIS/Obama bias at times and are citing Russian officials who obviously will have their own bias:

‘Destroy town to save it – Mosul may become US’ My Lai in Iraq’

Americans seem to be willing to step into the fray in Iraq, which takes one back to Vietnam and the My Lai massacre, where the concept of the US was to destroy the village to save it, said Jack Rice, former CIA officer, and international lawyer.

TrendsIraq carnage (https://www.rt.com/trends/iraq-carnage/)

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday that Moscow is alarmed by American actions in Mosul, which may have resulted in mass civilian casualties. He also said Russia had requested a special briefing of the UN Security Council in connection with the deadly incident.

An airstrike made headlines around the world after more than 200 people were killed.
However, there’ve been conflicting reports as to what exactly happened in Iraq’s Mosul over a week ago after the US coalition’s airstrike against ISIS. The Pentagon confirmed Saturday carrying out a raid in Mosul on March 17 in the same area where reportedly a significant number of civilians were killed. A statement (http://www.centcom.mil/MEDIA/PRESS-RELEASES/Press-Release-View/Article/1130282/allegation-of-civilian-casualties-in-west-mosul/) released by US Central Command claims the strike was conducted at the request of Iraqi Security Forces.

U.S. sees probable role in Mosul blast, probe under way

By Isabel Coles, Phil Stewart and Idrees Ali | MOSUL, Iraq/WASHINGTON

The senior U.S. commander in Iraq acknowledged on Tuesday that the U.S.-led coalition probably had a role in an explosion in Mosul believed to have killed scores of civilians but said Islamic State could also be to blame.
As investigators probe the blast, Lieutenant General Stephen Townsend strongly defended U.S. behavior in the war and pushed back against accusations the United States had loosened safeguards meant to protect civilians as it ramps up the battle against Islamic State.
Still, he said increases in casualties were to be expected as the war against the insurgents entered its deadliest phase in the cramped, narrow streets of Mosul's Old City.
"It is the toughest and most brutal close-quarters combat that I have experienced in my 34 years of service," Townsend told Pentagon reporters, speaking from Iraq.
"What has not changed is our care, our caution ... our tolerance from civilian casualties - none of that has changed."

In latest news, there seems to be a U-turn:

U.S. airstrike was responsible for civilian deaths in Mosul, Iraqi officials say

A top Iraqi military officer said Wednesday it was clear that the devastating explosion on the west Mosul neighborhood of Jadidah this month was a U.S. airstrike, but he insisted the troops that requested it didn’t realize civilians were present.
With as many as 200 people killed — the largest civilian death toll in decades from a U.S. airstrike — the March 17 attack has become a public relations nightmare for the internationally backed effort by the Iraqi military to drive Islamic State militants out of the country’s second-largest city.

Iraqi government 'made a mistake' by attacking Mosul before capturing Isis sanctuaries Endgames: inside Iraq In his second dispatch, Patrick Cockburn speaks with the Governor of Kirkuk, who says Isis will survive fall of Iraqi city because it can still find support among displaced Sunni Arabs

https://static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/styles/article_small/public/thumbnails/image/2017/03/28/20/mosul-soldiers-2.jpg Federal Police soldiers fight against Isis in west Mosul AP The Iraqi government made a mistake that will allow Isis to survive by seeking to capture Mosul (http://independent.co.uk/topic/mosul) before eliminating other Isis safe havens in northern and western Iraq to which its fighters can retreat, according to a senior Iraqi leader.
“It would have been better first to eliminate Daesh (Isis) sanctuaries to which they can retreat when Mosul falls,” says Najmaldin Karim, the Governor of the oil province of Kirkuk, in an interview with The Independent. He says that half of Kirkuk province is still held by Isis and cited, in particular, the Hawija area, a notorious stronghold south west of Kirkuk city of Isis and previously of al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Canadian SF getting involved in Mosul battle:

Canadian special forces troops on move in Mosul as Iraq mission extended to end of June

OTTAWA — Canadian special forces have taken a more active role in the battle for Mosul, where weeks of bloody fighting have failed to dislodge the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
National Defence revealed the shift on Friday as the Liberal government announced it was extending the current mission in Iraq until the end of June.
The hope is that the battle for Mosul will be over by then, at which point the government will have a better handle on the long-term needs in Iraq and change Canada’s contribution as required.
“There is nobody at this juncture that can really determine or predict exactly what will happen and how it would happen,” said Gen. Jonathan Vance, Canada’s chief of the defence staff.

In Iraq, Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, upbeat on Mosul

By Phil Stewart | QAYYARA WEST AIRFIELD, Iraq
President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, voiced optimism about the long-term U.S. alliance with Iraq's military and its campaign to retake Mosul from Islamic State on Tuesday, as he visited a base about 10 miles (16 km) from the city.
Kushner was on the last day of a two-day trip to Iraq as the guest of Marine General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff. The visit to the Hammam al-Alil base included an operational briefing from Iraqi and U.S. commanders.
The trip has demonstrated the far-reaching portfolio of Kushner, 36, who is part of Trump's innermost circle and who has been given a wide range of domestic and foreign policy responsibilities, including working on a Middle East peace deal. His views on Iraq could shape Trump's own opinions.
It comes as Trump is examining ways to accelerate a U.S.-led coalition campaign that U.S. and Iraqi officials say has so far been largely successful in uprooting Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.

NBC news this morning showed an amazing video out of Iraq where street after street was filled with destroyed homes and massive craters from bombs and yet ZERO civilians injured/dead.
Smart bombs perhaps are not always complete success but smart news coverage always delivers.
