Great TED Talk! I own Carol Dweck's book Mindset: The psychology of success. It was a great read. I personally thought it was a tool to battle the concept of "Learned helplessness". Learned helplessness is painful, and I think it's vital that people focus on the fact that it (like all beliefs) is "learned".

I personally think that the Leviathan does everything it can in order to spark learned helplessness amongst the masses in order to enforce regimes (ex: entitlement programs, gun control, Patriot Act, the war on drugs, etc.). It also helps well with identity politics.

I don't think "fear", "self-doubt", "learned helplessness", or "victimhood" are hard-wired. It's just bombarded in our society and as a result "helplessness" becomes learned. It's fashionable to be a victim. Because of that, it's comfortable to accept self-destructive beliefs and give up.
