View Full Version : Trump budget shows me that the former Democrat is more conservative than most Republicans

The way I look at Trump is that he is a mixed bad of good and bad. I was hoping that he would at least make some serious budget cuts in the Executive branch and it appears that he will do just that.

Donald Trump Budget Spends Big on Military and the Wall; Cuts Foreign Aid, EPA, and Public Broadcasting
http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/03/16/donald-trump-budget-spends-big-on-military-and-the-wall-cuts-foreign-aid-epa-and-public-broadcasting/

I don't buy into his bullshit that our military is underfunded and weak, but I am quite glad to see these cuts listed:

28% cut to State Department
30% cut to EPA
29% cut to Department of Agriculture
over 20% cut to Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Labor

We are far away from anything meaningful happening, but this is at least a positive step in my opinion. Who would have thought that the former Democrat would propose more serious cuts than lifelong Republican politicians?

Does anyone know if these are real cuts or the usual "cuts" to proposed increases?

This and are there going to be any last minutes compromises with democrats. I am sure the increases would be safe, the proposed cuts even if they are cuts to proposed increases might not be safe.

I can't even figure out if there is an overall reduction in spending. People make fun of me for voting for Gary Johnson, but a 20% reduction for all agencies was a brilliant plan.

At this point, it is a "suggested" budget. Congress has to write the real thing.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-presidential-budget-2018-proposal/

Discretionary spending limits, addressed by this proposal, are set by congressional budget resolutions. Congress typically makes changes to the president’s proposal — last year, lawmakers disregarded Obama’s budget altogether. Mandatory spending, by contrast, is set by other laws and is often determined by the size of the benefit and the eligible population.

In total, the budget proposes to eliminate funding for these 19 agencies:

African Development Foundation
Appalachian Regional Commission
Chemical Safety Board
Corporation for National and Community Service
Corporation for Public Broadcasting
Delta Regional Authority
Denali Commission
Institute of Museum and Library Services
Inter-American Foundation
U.S. Trade and Development Agency
Legal Services Corporation
National Endowment for the Arts
National Endowment for the Humanities
Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation
Northern Border Regional Commission
Overseas Private Investment Corporation
U.S. Institute of Peace
U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness
Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholar

Not in his budget proposal is any of his proposed $1 trillion to spend on "infrastructure" and only a tiny portion of his wall.

They are actual cuts. Like, mathematical, actual cuts.

I know, right?

This never happens. Even on the state level this never happens. The left howls about "cuts," and yet when you look at the graph, it's up, up, up. (and Away!) Exhibit A: Scott Walker vs. the Vulture Teacher Mob.

This is astounding, actually. This is terrific. If When this happens, it will be the best thing to happen politically on the federal level in my lifetime.

And my favorite ones are the ones that get a 100% cut:

CPB: GONE
NEA: GONE

Gone, gone, gone, I love it! Mwah ha ha ha!

$4 million for the federal response to homelessness for 1 year? Do you really believe that number? I hate Trump as much as the next guy but that low ball number brings up a lot of red flags. The year Katrina hit, the federal govt spent $2.6 billion on FEMA trailers and there was still homelessness after Katrina. I think you have a tendency of believing any negative story written about Trump and that ends up counting against you when you post some true story.

$4 m wouldn't be enough to buy the stationary HUD uses for one year. $4m is a drop in the bucket when it comes to federal departments spending

For example:

Current EPA Money-Burning: $8.4 Billion annually

Trump's Proposed EPA Money-Burning in FY 2018: $5.7 Billion

Astounding. Unprecedented.

Good as it is, though, I'm still holding out for Rick Perry to give his whole department pink slips and shut it all down. Come on, Rick, you promised! :D

Just the official gov site:

The official gov site! It's hard to believe! It's like a Cato policy paper somehow lost its way and instead of being printed in a boring archive no one will read (as is the proper order of things) ended up as the Official GPO Budget Proposal!

It is indeed a real cut, I can't believe what I am reading. Now I will bookmark this link and see how it matches up to the final signed budget. Another question is this, would he make up the cuts up somewhere else aka rearranging the chairs on a sinking Titanic or are we going to see a substantial decline in the growth of govt?

I'm going to wait until this time next year and see what the total debt is (not the bogus deficit number).

My guess it that a major recession is coming and it'll throw a massive monkey wrench into the whole mess.

His "not adding anything new to the deficit" does not include any of his proposed tax cuts. He has also referred to his budget proposal as a "rough draft"- promising more details in May.
