Illinois is attempting to create a state holiday honoring former President Barack Obama.
In a still divided United States, the decision has generated as much fury as it has praise.
Politico reports that state representative Andre Thapedi -- who sponsored one of the bills in front of the Illinois state legislature -- was hit with a slew of emails (http://www.aol.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.politico.com%2Fstory%2F2017 %2F03%2Fobama-legacy-illinois-235963) that contained death threats.

To be devil's advocate, would it be end of the world if his birthday was made a holiday to honor his service to nation and his legacy?

Or having few highways named after our Presidents to honor their service. There are aleady Towers named after Trump (granted, private) and US ships named after Bush but still no "USS Barack Hussein Obama".

They don't name ships after active presidents though former presidents usually get one. George W. Bush still doesn't have one and Nixon doesn't nor does Clinton. HW Bush, Reagan, Ford, Kennedy, Eisenhower, and Truman had carriers named after them. Carter has a Seawolf Class submarine named after him.

Should the U.S. Navy name a future Ford-class carrier after President Barack Obama?
Since the 1990s, most of America’s aircraft carriers have been named after U.S. presidents, save for the USS Nimitz (CVN-68), USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74). Thus far, out of the planned ten-carrier Ford-class, the Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) and the John F. Kennedy (CVN-79) are named after presidents, but CVN-80 will follow the long tradition of using the name Enterprise. The next carrier after Enterprise, CVN-81, will likely be revert to the convention of naming carriers after presidents. Indeed, there is a case to be made for naming the ship USS Barack Obama.
