Remember back in 2010 when the New York Times fake quoted Rand Paul, then refused to fix it even after MSNBC called them on-air? Several other media outlets picked up on it as well. Here's the MSNBC coverage:

The fake quote is still intact 7 years later, amazingly.

Just wanted to point this out, in case anyone has forgotten or wasn't aware. Given all the talk recently about fake news and the New York Times, I think it is relevant.

I sent an email to the NYT corrections desk today to see if they'll fix it. It won't really accomplish much 7 years later, nor change my opinion of them. But I'm interested to see if anything comes of it.

Here is the email I sent in:

Correction regarding false quote of Sen. Rand Paul from 2010

Dear New York Times editors,

I would like to call attention to an error in a New York Times article published on May 20, 2010, containing a demonstrably false quote from Rand Paul, U.S. Senator from Kentucky. The New York Times misquote of Sen. Paul was pointed out on The Rachel Maddow Show, and covered in several other media outlets as well -- but a correction was never issued. The video of MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes discussing the misquote can be viewed below:

The NYT article in question is here:

Please issue a correction regarding this matter.

Thank you.

Never thought of emailing NYT, guess I'll ask them to correct/apologize for fake Iraq yellow cake WMD, "we are being greeted as Liberators in Libya" , Syria stories also.
