Literally dying laughing.:D You'd think militant nationalists that demonize Putin would at least know what the Russian flag looks like...

http://nypost.com/2017/02/24/trump-supporters-unwittingly-wave-russian-flags-at-cpac/
A political prankster passed out small Russian flags emblazoned with President Trump’s name at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference — where Trump supporters blindly waved the banners during his Friday morning speech (http://nypost.com/2017/02/24/trump-doubles-down-on-fight-with-media-during-cpac-speech/) until they were confiscated, according to online reports.
Photos show people in the crowd holding the flags, which have “TRUMP” printed in gold capital letters on the middle blue stripe — and stern-faced men in suits holding handfuls of them as they scan the audience.
“Crowd at CPAC waving these little pro-Trump flags that look exactly like the Russian flag. Staffers quickly come around to confiscate them,” Snapchat’s Peter Hamby tweeted. (https://twitter.com/PeterHamby/status/835150821411143682)
Photos also show a young man wearing a red shirt and a visor as he distributed the flags before Trump’s speech.
The culprit was identified as liberal activist Ryan Clayton, who told BuzzFeed News that he spoke with a fake Russian accent as he told CPAC attendees: “Trump and Putin great leaders, yes?”
An accomplice in the stunt, Jason Charter, said he and Clayton gave away about 1,000 flags.
“Most people saw Trump’s name on the flags and didn’t give a second thought to the fact that they were Russian,” Charter told BuzzFeed. (https://www.buzzfeed.com/juliareinstein/someone-handed-out-pro-trump-russian-flags-at-cpac?utm_term=.bcBddXxZV#.geVJJ5L9z)
Both men are members of “Americans Take Action,” (http://americanstakeaction.com/) a self-styled “network of populists” whose Web site calls for Trump’s impeachment.

I am literally shaking right now because you are literally dying laughing because you mistakenly believe there is irony where none exists.

This, the OP wrongly assumed that

An American nationalist would automatocally be against another country whose president and citizen adore their candidate in Trump

That Trump supporter did not know what country the flag belonged to.

Lastly that militant nationalist of the Trump variety is anti Russia. The only people that are anti Russia are leftists and neocons who are pissed off that Russia got in the way of a win in Syria and supposedly a win in Nov.

I don't pay close enough attention to GOP politics, I guess. I assumed the Five Minutes' Hate treatment Putin gets in popular Right-ish media is a sentiment more or less shared amongst Trumpeters. (Trump himself isn't that consistent in a number of things after all...) *shrugs*

Still what's the problem? Why confiscate?

Because CPAC likes maintaining the image that they do not take well to people protesting conservatives at CPAC.. The guy who handed out the flags was a Trump protester. I maintain most of those holding them up were probably secretly protesters as well, although it is certainly possible he was able to trick some Trump supporters into protesting him.

There's nothing wrong with liking Trump and Russia at the same time. Like walking a chewing bubble gum at the same time, it works for some.

Confiscating the flags makes the CPAC leadership look petty and shallow. Authoritarianism make you look stupid, because that's how you're acting.

Fake news.

Numerous journalists reported today that President Trump’s supporters were seen waving Russian flags before his CPAC speech, but they omitted the fact that the entire incident was a stunt pulled by an anti-Trump leftist group.

“Crowd at CPAC waving these little pro-Trump flags that look exactly like the Russian flag. Staffers quickly come around to confiscate them,” tweeted Snapchat’s Peter Hamby. The tweet received over 9,000 retweets.

However, as James O’Keefe, who is at CPAC, revealed, “This was Ryan Clayton from Bob Creamer group “Americans Take Action” handing Russian flags. Ryan was forcibly removed. You edited that out.”

Quite honestly, expecting even a pretty educated person to know that that flag has to be specifically the Russian flag, rather than any of the many other flags that look similar to that, is asking a lot, except for the fact that Trump really does have a man crush on Putin.

I wasn't disagreeing with any of that. My only quibble would be that you shouldn't have added the qualification "anymore."

But if you showed me that flag in any other context and asked me what country's it was, I'd pretty much be flipping a coin on my head.

I have no idea what the Russian flag looks like. Well, I saw pictures that are supposed to be the Russian flag.

What people do know is the SOVIET UNION'S Hammer and Sickle.

The Conservative GOP was very much against the Communism. And the Democrats really weren't.

The Conservatives don't like that Hammer and Sickle one bit, but they don't know about the Russian Flag and there are a lot of people, Conservatives, who have liked Putin for years. Russia hasn't been Communist for decades. The Democrats seem to think of the Russians as an enemy, but Conservatives don't.

Hey klamath, you mindless fool,

The fake news part is the fact that the msm reported the incident occurred but forgot to mention it was a prank.

That is why the term "fake news" has backfired, is now making msm heads explode (like Don Lemon and Jake Fapper), and is not going away any time soon.

I have read the whole thing was a prank, but it still doesn't mean the prank wasn't made on Trump people. Anyway, the way I look at it is this, if someone spikes by cereal with delicious raising to prank me, I would still eat my bowl of cereal because I like raising. They can go away laughing their ass off saying I ate my bowl even though it was spiked with raising which he/she thinks is awful.

I think Russia and Putin is the raising and the Trump supporters is me in that story. They like Russia and they don't mind showing it.

I discount anything that they say, because they can't articulate a logical rebuttal. This was a prime example. Very strongly shows how some conservatives and libertarians got tired of losing so they joined what they were fighting against and assimilated the neocon, leftist, fascist beliefs instead of changing the group they joined. I am just waiting to see hardcore fiscal conservatives praising massive deficit spending. This is the first CPAC since in 10 years that hasn't had a huge libertarian presence. trump enables the establishment to take CPAC back to its twisted, rotten roots.

https://amp.businessinsider.com/libertarians-cpac-2017-absent-rand-ron-paul-2017-2

But, after President Donald Trump's surprise November victory, the CPAC program conspicuously changed, underscoring nationalistic ideals while tepidly moving away from principles of small government that were popular among conservatives during President Barack Obama's eight years in office.
...
Nick Gillespie, former editor-in-chief of the libertarian Reason magazine, agreed, contending that the American Conservative Union, the organization that hosts CPAC, had "started squeezing out" those who believed in libertarian ideals.

"During the Obama years, Paul pere et fils were the only ones offering a serous critique of mainstream Republicanism, which the party recognizes is drifting," he said in an email. "Trump's victory, however narrow, allows the GOP regulars to go about their business as if nothing is wrong."

This is way more important than the silly liberal prank, as illuminating as that pwnage may have been.
