The White House says Kellyanne Conway, a senior adviser to President Trump, has been "counseled" after she promoted Ivanka Trump's fashion line in a television interview.
Conway was speaking from the White House briefing room on Thursday morning when she told Fox News Channel that people should "go buy Ivanka's stuff."
A day earlier, the president had attacked Nordstrom department stores for dropping his daughter's line of clothing and accessories.
Ethics lawyers, lawmakers and government watchdog organizations called for investigations into Conway's endorsement, and suggested or said outright that she had violated government ethics law. White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that Conway has been "counseled on that subject, and that's it." He did not elaborate.
===

This is, of course, AFTER his criticism of Nordstrom's for dropping his kid's clothing line was retweeted on the PRESIDENTIAL TWITTER ACCOUNT! Completely stupid.

I think complaining about trivial stuff like this is counter productive. Worry about the big stuff like govt spending. It's starting to look like Trump is going to increase the already huge deficits. Building a wall. Increasing military spending. Airline infrastructure spending. No talk of reducing SS or Medicare. Tax cuts (although tax cuts will not reduce the deficit by as much as the supposed "experts" predict, they will reduce it some).

Of course it is. But no more so than silly threads complaining about Obama taking a vacation after he's no longer president.

Have you ever actually sat in an office meeting? Maybe it actually started late. Maybe there was a lull while they waited for someone to show up. Maybe the meeting was pushed back 30 minutes. People will go back to their office to get something and there will be a lull. There might be a few minutes of silence while the conductor of the meeting asks the employees to read something. Sometimes a couple of sub-conversations break out and you sit there until the real meeting actually resumes. Maybe he had to go take a sh*t.

Office of Government Ethics website breaks after Conway promotes Ivanka's brand

The website of the federal government’s ethics watchdog has been inaccessible for hours, and agency officials say it’s because of surging traffic.

“We received a high volume of traffic and we are looking at ways to redirect traffic and add capacity,” a spokesman for the Office of Government Ethics said.

Attempts to reach OGE’s website have been unsuccessful since early Thursday morning. Several hours after the site became inaccessible, the agency tweeted, “OGE’s website, phone system and email system are receiving an extraordinary volume of contacts from citizens about recent events.”

The tweet seemed to be referring to Trump administration adviser Kellyanne Conway, who appeared to violate ethics rules that prohibit executive branch officials from endorsing individual brands or products early Thursday morning. Conway offered what she called a “free commercial” for Ivanka Trump’s clothing line during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

In subsequent tweets, the agency emphasized that while it works to prevent ethics violations, “OGE does not have investigative or enforcement authority.”

An excerpt of the White House press briefing on Thursday.

02/09/17 02:37 PM EST

“Congress, GAO, the FBI, Inspectors General, and the Office of Special Counsel have the authority to conduct investigations,” the agency tweeted. “When OGE learns of possible ethics violations, OGE contacts the agency, provides guidance & asks them to notify OGE of any action taken. OGE is actively following this agency-contact process.”

Asked about Conway’s comments at Thursday’s press briefing, White House spokesman Sean Spicer would say only that Conway had been “counseled” on the matter.

OGE director Walter Shaub has sparred with President Donald Trump and his administration over concerns about the pace of ethics reviews of Trump’s Cabinet nominees, as well as Trump’s decision not to fully divest from his byzantine real estate empire.

Couldn't agree more. The other outrage was that he was going to enrich himself a little bit by getting the pentagon to rent a floor in one of Trump's hotel. So he decided to take a pocket a few million for himself? boo hoo. If he reduces size of govt and put the country in a path of prosperity, I say he deserves every cent of it. There are much bigger fisher to fry than this non issue.

I have not seen any real signs of reducing the size of government so far- other than an expanding list of things he wants to spend additional money on.

the PRESIDENTIAL TWITTER ACCOUNT!

Not the presidential twitter twitter twitter account!? OMG! OMG! OMG! There is something wrong, I just can't figure out what, so I will act outraged while laughably talking about the twitter presidential account!

Not on TWITTER! That is 140 characters of PURE IMPORTANCE!

HE he he he said WORDS! Real WORDS! OMG, I THINK THE CONSTITUTION SAYS HE CAN'T DO THAT! the TWITTER clause is over there in section 18 or something!

(actually the constitution provides no restrictions on what the president can and can not say. Yes, he is allowed to criticize judges and mayors and governors and cops and citizens and companies, and he is allowed to do so for personal or political reasons. Sorry to hurt your fee fees, "liberty lovers").

10:39, Sean Spicer addresses the media trying to silence trump by claiming he cant say things @ 21:35
they bog down into the details, and then at about 24:00, Spicer again states the truth, TRUMP WILL SPEAK HIS MIND, AND IS ALLOWED TO.

The real press conferences are better and more entertaining than SNL's cringeworthy attempts at humor, I assure you.

Sorry all you frothing outrage addicts, but the president also has the right to the first amendment, and always has, and there is even very little tradition that says the president can not criticize corporations, people, the press, or the other two branches of government.

and at about 25:00, you can watch him BTFO some fat ignorant shlub "journalist"

at about 26:00, you can watch him BTFO all you people getting your panties in a wad about Trumps tweets.

Real life is much better than fantasylands like Saturday Night Live. It is even better than Hollywood attempts at "based on a true story".

LOL the outrage is when precious Trump snowflakes try to prop Cheeto Mussolini up as some sort of LIBERTY CANDIDATE! Can you imagine the absurdity of try to pass Trump off on this board when Ron was active? Remember when ISSUES mattered over FANBOYING! This is RPF, even the namesake of this board REFUSED to vote for Trump, yet people want to pass the Clintons' buddy off as part of the LIBERTY MOVEMENT? "liberty lovers" indeed. Are we great again, yet?

Kellyanne Conway’s White House Infomercial

In Thursday’s episode of “QVC: White House Edition,” Kellyanne Conway, a top adviser to President Trump, hawked his daughter’s fashion line on national television.

“Go buy Ivanka’s stuff, is what I would tell you,” Ms. Conway said in an interview on “Fox & Friends.” “I’m going to give a free commercial here: Go buy it today, everybody. You can find it online.”

That’s cartoonishly crass, but perhaps not surprising, considering the example set by the president himself. On Wednesday he turned the power of his office against Nordstrom, attacking it for dropping Ivanka’s clothing line.

Ms. Conway’s remarks, made from the White House briefing room, plainly violated federal ethics regulations, which state that an employee “shall not use his public office for his own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service or enterprise or for the private gain of friends, relatives, or persons with whom the employee is affiliated in a nongovernmental capacity.”

“Using public office for private gain” could be the motto of this administration, which is largely disregarding laws and customs meant to assure that presidents won’t let their financial interests get in the way of leading the nation. (This president, of course, has at least one immediate issue of his own: the violation of his 60-year lease of the government-owned Old Post Office building in Washington, which bars any elected official from being the lessee.)

Ethics experts and good-government groups were quick to pounce on Ms. Conway’s impromptu infomercial, and her ethical violation was so glaring that even some Republicans in Congress took note. Her words were “wrong, wrong, wrong, clearly over the line, unacceptable,” said Jason Chaffetz, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Mr. Chaffetz called for the White House to refer the matter to the Office of Government Ethics, which could recommend disciplinary actions against Ms. Conway, including suspension and loss of pay. A referral would be the right way to deal with this. (The White House said that she has been “counseled,” which sounds like something between a wink and a slap on the wrist.)

Whatever happens to Ms. Conway, the deeper concern here is over the administration’s insistence on treating the White House as a wholly -owned subsidiary of the Trump Organization. If Mr. Trump truly cares more about his new job serving the American people than about serving the family empire, he knows what to do: release his tax returns and sell his businesses.
