I WANT GORSUCH but think it will be Hardiman. Trump's sister wants Hardiman and I think Trump will listen to sister. hardiman is pro 2nd amendment but also super pro cop. he believes that citizens dont have the right to video tape cops. gorsuch is an originalist. he believes in state power over federal and is super pro religous rights

I expect it to be Hardiman.

The main reason is because Hardiman is very pro-cop. And that fits right in with Trump's law and order platform.

Hardiman ruled that we have no 1st Amendment right to video record police, and has also ruled that a policy of strip searching everyone who gets arrested is not unreasonable search and seizure.

He's also the least like Scalia of the three on Trump's shortlist, according to a metric that was cited on the Volokh Conspiracy.

Trump wants to satisfy the demands of conservatives, after promising to nominate someone in Scalia's mold. But he wants to do so just barely, and to get someone as little like Scalia as possible, while still making the cut.

Apparently Trump was strongly considering Nap; but ultimately decided to stick to the list of 12 (19?) judges he published during the campaign.

Maybe Nap can get in there next time after RBGinsburg dies.

Donald Trump Is Treating His Supreme Court Decision Like ‘Celebrity Apprentice’

The two judges in the running are headed to the capital.

01/31/2017 02:23 pm ET | Updated 1 minute ago
Cristian Farias (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/author/cristian-farias) Legal Affairs Reporter, The Huffington Post

In a move that should surprise no one, President Donald Trump (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/topic/donald-trump) is reportedly bringing the two expected finalists for Justice Antonin Scalia’s Supreme Court seat to Washington to create a sense of intrigue ahead of Tuesday’s primetime reveal.

Or “to build suspense (http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/31/politics/gorsuch-supreme-court-hardiman/index.html),” as CNN’s Pamela Brown put it in her report on Tuesday.

“This is all an extraordinary measure ... to keep the selection private ahead of tonight’s announcement,” Brown said of what increasingly looks like a piece of political theater.

Finalists Neil Gorsuch and Thomas Hardiman ― both of whom are highly respected in conservative circles ― are either in Washington or en route for the 8 p.m. announcement (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/826063267760046080), according to CNN. Trump has already said he’s made his choice (https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/826063267760046080). So is the purpose of this arrangement to give the president one last sit-down with the nominee just to make sure?

Under normal circumstances, a president’s choice for the Supreme Court is shrouded in secrecy. The chief executive meets with the candidates in the days leading up to the nomination and may not make a decision until moments before the announcement.

But there’s no precedent for this kind of spectacle, and no apparent reason for bringing both candidates to town for the announcement. The White House has announced the event will be broadcast live on Facebook (https://twitter.com/WhiteHouse/status/826518763256287232).

Some observers have compared the former “Apprentice” star’s theatrics to another popular reality show (http://abc.go.com/shows/the-bachelor):

Tonight! #SCOTUS (https://twitter.com/hashtag/SCOTUS?src=hash) pic.twitter.com/dNsOBWLuwA (https://t.co/dNsOBWLuwA)
— Supreme Court Places (@SCOTUSPlaces) January 31, 2017 (https://twitter.com/SCOTUSPlaces/status/826489048567013377)
The next Supreme Court justice will have big shoes to fill ― Trump’s promise to nominate someone in Scalia’s mold may have helped propel him to victory. But this latest development suggests the president and those in his circle may not be taking the process as seriously as they should be, and reflects poorly on the presidency, the high court and the two candidates.

Will Trump make Gorsuch and Hardiman stand in front of live cameras so he can choose one and dismiss the other, for all America to see? For the sake of the institution ― which could be a big check on his presidency ― God forbid.

I think trying to predict Trump's next move is a fool's errand.

With you on this one. It's very difficult to predict what his moves will be. The only thing it seems possible to predict is that if you insult him, he'll take to Twitter to vent; outside of that, it's like trying to predict heads or tails.

From IJR: (http://ijr.com/2017/01/790802-exclusive-president-trumps-supreme-court-pick-confirmed/)

Two high-ranking administration sources have confirmed to Independent Journal Review that President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick is Colorado Judge Neil Gorsuch.
Gorsuch, who recently traveled (http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/31/politics/gorsuch-supreme-court-hardiman/) to Washington, D.C., was put on Trump’s short list for the appointment after he met with the then-president elect after the 2016 election.
Speaking on background, an administration source instrumental to the SCOTUS selection process tells IJR, “Yes. It is Gorsuch. 100 percent. The Hardiman thing is a head fake.” Thomas Hardiman is the other Judge Trump was considering for the vacancy, who is also in Washington, D.C.
A second source within the Trump administration confirmed IJR’s reporting.
Judge Gorsuch will join the president tonight at the White House for the announcement.
Gorsuch, at the age of 49, will become one of the youngest (http://www.scotusblog.com/2017/01/judge-neil-gorsuch-colorado-native-washington-d-c-insider/) SCOTUS appointments in history. Gorsuch reportedly (http://www.scotusblog.com/2017/01/judge-neil-gorsuch-colorado-native-washington-d-c-insider/) cried when he found out about Justice Scalia’s death. The Colorado native attended Harvard Law with former President Barack Obama. http://magafeed.com/breaking-trumps-supreme-court-pick-is-colorado-judge-neil-gorsuch/

A source close to Team Trump's confirmation operation tells Townhall that Judge Neil Gorsuch (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2017/01/24/meet-the-alleged-frontrunners-trumps-scotus-pick-looms-n2275677) of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals will be nominated to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2016/11/10/president-trump-on-day-one-a-conservative-wishlist-n2243638) by the late Justice Antonin Scalia. This information could not be independently and directly confirmed by a second source. However, additional breadcrumbs exist: (1) Another court-watching journalist I spoke with earlier today has a separate source who has also been told to prepare for a Gorsuch nomination, (2) a Thomas Hardiman ally I contacted did not dispute (but would not formally confirm) that the Third Circuit judge for whom he was lobbying has been passed over, and (3) a pair of top Congressional sources said they've heard growing Gorsuch "buzz" this afternoon, but could not offer airtight confirmations. All of which is to say that unless there is a significant misdirection operation underway -- a possibility that cannot be discounted, especially given the president's flare for the dramatic and these speculation-building theatrics (https://twitter.com/cnnadam/status/826483202063732738) -- it will be Gorsuch:

I'll say this, based on 4 conversations today: Either there's a major headfake operation afoot, or it's going to be Gorsuch. #SCOTUS (https://twitter.com/hashtag/SCOTUS?src=hash)
— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) January 31, 2017 (https://twitter.com/guypbenson/status/826491510854086662)
Two sources with solidly reliable knowledge of the situation confirmed to me yesterday (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2017/01/30/battle-ahead-conservatives-prepare-ad-blitz-in-support-of-trump-scotus-pick-n2278734) that Trump's selection would either be Gorsuch or Hardiman. The president will unveil his choice this evening at 8pm Eastern.
UPDATE: CNN's sources are apparently hearing similar things (https://twitter.com/HotlineJosh/status/826483882472128512):

CNN reporting Gorsuch is the frontrunner for SCOTUS. Easy way to unite the GOP...
— Josh Kraushaar (@HotlineJosh) January 31, 2017 (https://twitter.com/HotlineJosh/status/826483882472128512)
If this mounting evidence proves to be accurate, Gorsuch would be an absolutely superb choice (http://www.scotusblog.com/2017/01/potential-nominee-profile-neil-gorsuch/). He is a committed, established originalist who was confirmed to his current post by a Senate voice vote (no opposition) in 2006. He is just 49 years old. Is this intel solid, or is Trump setting up the media? Stay tuned.
