Move this thread, I meant to post it in general poitics

What differentiates him at all from t he other candidates...

Even tancredo stands out as the immigration guy... all I've heard from Tancredo is mirror trade and his double fence.

What defines Hunter, he seems really mean and stands out in no way, and 'mcurous how an exploratory committee would give him the idea he should run

He "built" a fence and has a son who participated in the sack of Fallujah.

again, move the thread... but is that it... I'm the grandson of the head of a Military (Enrique Trinidad Oliva, 2nd to Castillio Armas. Removed Arbenz from power) coup that overthrew a socialist government... I guess that makes me qualified

http://www.terra.es/personal2/monolith/guatemal.htm He was part of the second formation of the Military junta, this is bit of intervention since the coup was CIA backed and fell apart soon after overthrowing Arbenz, which led to 30 years of war in Guatemala

I was their when the war ended and the then president lit some fire, I didn't realize what it was at the time, I was like 8

Duncan Hunter is impotent in this election. He should withdraw before the Iowa Caucus if he wants to save face.

Hunter's the one who advocates the mirror tariffs. And he's an idiot for doing so.

Duncan Hunter is the only real trade protectionist on the Republican side.
Also he supports the Fair Tax, though Huckabee shares that distinction.
Other than that, his positions are fairly orthodox conservative fare, though he could probably make a case that he's more conservative than most of the other contenders.

He's not running to win, he's running to solidify his son to take over the family Congressional seat. Why do you think he mentions his son in Afghanistan so much?

Hunter seems like a democrat to me. Always complaining about how trade is hurting us.

Isn't Tancredo a trade protectionist too?

Bingo. I was gonna say this run for the nomination is about his son's career.

he is using his son as a political prop. Jim Webb did it and won because of it.

If I remember correctly, I think he announced around the time of the election in 06. I remember watching the news and going, "Who the hell is this guy?"

Well I beat him for earliness, I announced my 2024 candidacy in 2007, beat that

That's an interesting and highly plausible angle.

He's horrible on civil liberties and small government; he authored the MCA.

He epitomizes everything bad about the post-Goldwater conservative movement. Big spending, no civil rights, bomb everyone.
