Not a fan of SWC puppet but some of his recent photos in Right leaning MSM outlets don't show him in good light especially since Trump gained popularity:

If so, why would any media outlet be altering his skin tone in photos?

Obama Skin Tone Darker In Clinton Ad?

None of the 3 video sources I found showed Obama nearly as black as the Hillary ad does. Click the image above to see a larger version. Look at his lips. Look at his eyebrows. Look at how the red MSNBC background has turned more purple. Clearly the image was darkened. The question is “why.”

Did CNN Alter Esteban Santiago's Photograph?

snopes.com-Jan 6, 2017
A disreputable web site accused the network of lightening the skin of the suspected shooter in a photograph.

Claim: CNN altered a photograph of Esteban Santiago to make his skin appear lighter.
FALSE
Origin:On 6 January 2017, just a few hours after multiple people were killed (http://www.snopes.com/2017/01/06/several-shot-at-fort-lauderdale-airport/) by a gunman at Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport, disreputable web site The Gateway Pundit published an article claiming that CNN altered a photograph of Esteban Santiago, the alleged shooter, to make his skin appear lighter:

If some media outlets are bringing back same photo imaging tactics that Hillary Clinton campaign used in 2008, many people with interest in Media role in Politics would care and not just Obama supporters.
This kind of stuff goes in both directions.

That sounds ironic.

There were some unconfirmed rumors that Obama may have sabotaged Clinton campiagn in 2016 while pretending to campaign hard for her.

How about in photo processing, it is 100 times more difficult to stabilize a dark skin tone than a light one? Reflectivity is at odds with tone and can do all kinds of strange things in a camera lens. Is it possible that someone is fiddling with the tone? No, it is certain. All video and photos are tweaked. ALL. If some imagery/video are getting unfavorable tweaked then I am sure it's down to whatever individual editor handled those files and not some vast media conspiracy.

Agreed, many natural variations are possible in a given image results without any editing also.
BUT, media editors always have the choice as to which photo to use for any given news story and most often photos, just like headlines and news wording, are part of the narrative.. factual or biased. And at least in some cases or perhaps many cases, photo editing is done to convey a desired image.
