I think Ron Paul would do well to pledge to REFUSE any matching campaign funds as a matter of principle if he gets the GOP nomination. What do you think? The LP has always REFUSED matching funds, even when they qualify for them.

I think Dr. Paul should ask the contributors. For example, I gave him money and I pay taxes. I would like the money I gave him to be matched from the tax dollars that are extracted from me. This would be my choice as a direction for the tax dollars I pay.

Most of the people on this forum probably don't check off the campaign contribution boxes. So our money is not at stake.

FWIW, part of the reason these checkoff boxes are $3 now (used to be $1) is because people were becoming so disguseted with the tenor of campaigns, they were not contributing like they used to.

Dr Paul shouldn't take the matching campaign funds.

Why?

Because then he will be limited to spending something like only $75M from the time of the nominating convention until the general election.

hmm.. That is a tough one. In one respect he would be making a huge statement, but on the other hand he could be shooting himself in the foot.

The lame thing is.. hillary/obama/Guiluani are all big business hoes.. so, they are getting HUGE contributions from "business". Their war chests will be HUGE!

Forget seperation of Church and State, we need to seperate Business and State.

Xar, Im gonna have to agree with you on this, RP not taking matching funds, be it a principled gesture, surely would put him at disadvantage.
He is far more principled in all that he does, than any other candidate, the public wont even notice he accepted the funds.

This is a non issue. He will refuse them, of course. I have no doubt.

he WILL refuse them.

I wish he wouldn't - they are our taxdollars too.

Many candidates refuse them. IIRC Bush refused them in the last election. No biggie.
