"Comparable countries" have national healthcare systems. Is that what he is arguing for?

Of course. The difference is who pays.

The solution has been and always will be for the market to provide a buffet of coverage, and for consumer/patient advocates to push for education (rather than demanding the insurers change their product).
I do not need, nor will I ever need, maternity and prenatal coverage. Likewise, nearly every man out there is going to be able to opt out of that sort of coverage, too. Maybe I am more interested in using my insurance to help cover screenings and diagnostics, but am unlikely to use the pharmacy benefit. Maybe I only want to be insured for catastrophic injuries/diseases and associated expenses. Piecing together the coverage I want or need is going to be cheaper for me, and more expensive for the sort of person who wants every kind of coverage under the sun.
