Seven years ago tonight John Stossel’s show (http://www.foxbusiness.com/shows/stossel.html) debuted on Fox Business. This week he announced that the show will end next week.

Some years ago – I’m not sure whether he was still on ABC’s “20/20” then or had moved to Fox – I introduced John at a Cato event as “the most visible, most valuable libertarian in America.” That’s still an accurate assessment.

I first noticed John’s interest in freedom at the end of 1989 when he did a “20/20” piece on “The Positives of Deregulation,” reporting on the new and improved products and services that deregulation had delivered during the 1980s. I remember especially the afterword, when John sat at the anchor desk with Barbara Walters and Hugh Downs, and Downs said, “That was very interesting. It had never occurred to me that there was anything good about deregulation.” I thought to myself, “Really? I understand why some people favor regulation. You just thought deregulation was delivered by space aliens or Mr. Potter of Potterville?”

Apparently Friday is the last episode of Stossel. He convinced me of libertarianism when I was in high school. Disappointed to see this.

Too bad. Stossel got more into the nitty-gritty of issues than others, interviewing people who are directly affected by bad laws and setting facts straight to counter the fake news. It seems foxbusiness always cans a libertarian after the presidential election. One year it was Juge Nap's show, and Kennedy's show has been so watered down, her most frequent guests are people like John Bolton, McCain's daughter and anyone from fox news who just wrote a book!

Stossel sure had some good specials over the years. Is Greed Good? and Is America #1? were two greats.

Was a reason given for the show ending? I wonder what he has in mind next?

Him and the Judge should do a final farewell and give the MIDDLE FINGER TO FAUX NEWS, drop the mic, and walk out

John Stossel is great. I remembering loving his "Give Me a Beak" book for years. When it first came out, he wasn't widely known as a libertarian, and was extremely well respected by almost all in the media. Times have changed :)

He also spoke at the Free State Project's Liberty Forum conference and featured the FSP on three of his Fox Business episodes. Here is the most recent clip. It is from PorcFest.

John Stossel was great at explaining government follies to 3rd graders. Which, coincidentally, is the mentality of the average TV watcher. I've always thought his Stossel in the Classroom (http://stosselintheclassroom.org/) stuff was his best work.

Not sure that's true though.

While Stossel will no longer host his weekly program, he will remain as a regular on-air presence for Fox, making frequent guest appearances on various shows for both Fox News and Fox Business.

We’ve also heard that Stossel, a noted libertarian, will be working with ReasonTV to start up a libertarian-themed internet platform. He’ll also serve as an educator with the Charles Koch Institute’s new Creative Fellows Program.

He wrote an article about it.

By John Stossel

My last Fox Business Network TV show airs Friday.

That news pleases some people, like internet trolls who write that they are happy to be "rid of that noted LIAR and falsifier of news" who produces "hit pieces." Another wrote, "Hopefully the cancer came back to finish him off."

To be clear, I'm not ending "Stossel" because I have cancer. I don't have cancer. I had a small tumor removed, and, best we can tell, it's gone. I didn't even have chemo or radiation.

I'm moving on because I want to create a new libertarian internet-based platform with Reason TV and become an educator with the Charles Koch Institute's new Media and Journalism Fellowship program. I will still make appearances on Fox News.

I had a good time hosting my own show for seven years, trying to find new ways to simplify economics and demonstrate the benefits of free markets.

Thanks, I guess even mild mannered Stossel generates hate for speaking simple truth.

I remember he wrote that when he started out he won lots of awards for investigative journalism into big business. Later when he began doing reports on big government he got the cold shoulder (from big media) and never won another award. He literally gave up popularity and prestige in order to tell people the truth.

Sounds like they wanted him gone. Usually when someone leaves to do this or that, they are no longer wanted by the employer.

I've had disagreement with Stossel. But still, I don't view him as my enemy. And he's a friend to Individual Liberty.

I watched both in a high school Social Studies class and immediately thought they were outstanding.

It can't be overstated how valuable it has been that a large percentage of the high schools in this country pop in videos of Stossel. I definitely think his videos helped prime people for Ron Paul's campaigns.

I also remember Stossel giving Ron Paul an hour on 20/20 in 2007 to explain his views, which was out of the norm.
