He then got boo'ed for saying he'd talk to Chavez and trade with Cuba.

He then explained himself, and got a mixture of cheers and boos.

John McCain went from having no respect from me at the beginning of the horserace back at the beginning of the year, to being one of my most tolerable neocons because of his stance on wasteful spending and torture, and now he's gone to my most disliked of all presidential candidates currently running based on his astonishingly willful ignorance and mud-slinging campaign style.

Paul got the loudest response on this Iraq answer, his usual bring the troops home now message. Loudest of the entire night.

Yeah Paul got a very rough response on his Chavez answer, Paul just isn't a phony one bit! That as an easy question. All Paul had to say do was give an anti-Chavez answer for a cheap and grand applause I'm sure, but instead he spilled into his we should "talk with countries" spill, didn't really say anything too anti-chavez, and got some booes and big smirk from John Mccain.

People espousing an anti-immigrant message here are out of line with Congressman Paul's positions.

Congressman Paul believes free individuals should be able to freely and safely cross national boundaries to pursue their fortunes and those of their families.

He is opposed to a border fence because it sends a message of isolation and protectionism that is contrary to the rights of free individuals.

Congressman Paul says that what separates and divides are not languages, cultures, and national boundaries, but rather the irresponsible and wasteful policies of big government that work at odds to the freedoms of individuals.

Of course there are ignorant people of all races. Like the idiots in this thread who don't understand the perspective of the audience, many of which have lived under Castro, or have relatives who have. The fact that they booed Dr. Paul's response doesn't make them "ignorant Mexicans." It also doesn't mean that they can't tell the difference between the truth and a lie. It also doesn't make them neo-cons. It just means that they disagree, and could probably use more information.

All I'm saying is that there are a lot of folks of Mexican heratige out here supporting Ron Paul, and to come in this forum and see people defending an "ignorant Mexicans" comment is sickening, and all sorts of disgusting.

You are correct about this. However I'd imagine 90% of the audience here is Cuban. I have spoken to many of them and there is a big divide in the community.
Some people realize that making the people of cuba live like it is 1960 is a bad thing and our policy as it is now doesn't work. They all have an undying hate of Castro, but some DO realize that if we opened trade and the people were able to get out of the 1960's era they people may just step up and overthrow on their own.

The shills are playing to the ignorant Mexicans.......Paul is too honest to lie to get their vote.

The way I understood it was that the other candidates all think that "Mexicans" (the word is generic among Anglos for Spanish-speaking people anywhere in the Southwest, such as Southern California where I grew up in the 1950s, or New Mexico where I live now) are ignorant, so they can lie to them with impunity. Which they certainly do, all day every day -- just as they lie to everyone else. While Dr. Paul, as usual, just speaks the truth.

And they boo him (so I gather; I haven't seen this event yet), as the ignorant Anglos did at the debate in May -- which, ironically, was the big boost that actually got the campaign off the ground.

No need to be thin-skinned about it; there's plenty of ignorance in every racial/ancestral/cultural group. Fortunately, Dr. Paul relates to everyone as individuals first, and so can we. When Dr. Paul addressed an Arab-American group in Michigan, someone asked him if he had a special message for them. "No," he said, "just the same speech I give to everyone." That's our Ron Paul. Speak the truth and you need have no regrets.

Your theory is flawed because most americans today aren't anglos. Most americans are a big mix of people. Euro-americans being the majority, barely.

Anglos(a germanic tribe) were a small minority in Briton just like the saxons. Welsh and celtic rooted people were the majority(as the bbc has reported recently). Those brits that came over to america were mainly welsh and celtic rooted people, not anglos. Though the anglo-germanic tribes were so fierce that their langauge did make way and take over in Briton.

There shouldn't be a debate in spanish to begin with. It is a debate for the "Illegal vote" Which any illegal person in the country with a drivers license can vote. I do not see any debates being conducted in German, French, Italian, Sweedish, Arabic, etc, etc. Illegal immigration isn't about race, nationality,or color. It doesn't matter if the illegal is red, yellow, black or brown. Its about the law and allowing to many people into our country with no allegience to america without time to assimialte createing a foreign country within our own. (1) I didn't pose a "theory", just said how it sounded to me.

(2) The term "Anglo" is generally used, in areas of the US where there are large Hispanic communities, to denote the English-speaking community; for instance here in New Mexico "Anglo" includes African- as well as European-Americans. In that sense most Americans are Anglos.

(3) The Germanic tribe you refer to were the Angles (not Anglos), who together with Saxons, Jutes and Danes colonized the eastern and northern 2/3 of (what became) England in the latter half of the first millennium CE, pushing the Celtic people to the west; their language eventually became dominant throughout what is now England, as well as Scotland (the lowland Scots are Anglo-Saxons, the highlanders Celts, descendants of Irish colonists from about a thousand years ago, mixed with the original Picts and other inhabitants, who've left no trace other than occasional mentions in Roman chronicles).

(4) The name of the country/place is Britain; its inhabitants are Britons, who may indeed be genetically mostly Celtic, despite having been overrun by Romans, Angles/Saxons/Jutes/Danes, and Norman French over the last 2000 years. I don't know the research on this, but do know the Germanic tribes came in great numbers over several centuries; unlike the Romans and the later Normans, they were not just conquerers but colonists looking for land due to population pressures on the Continent. I'd say the history of Great Britain (England + Scotland) is so mixed it'd be hard to define anyone there as "purely" of any particular racial ancestry (outside of Wales).

(5) Well, my paternal ancestors came here over 300 years ago, bearing a name that came to Britain with the Norman conquest in 1066, while my maternal ancestors brought a Celtic name apparently from north central England. Anyway, we're all here now.

Amazing. Simply amazing that people are catering to a racist group of LaRaza Racists and pro-illegal groups like this. Univison has outright promoted and sponsored LaRaza in the past.

Dude calm down. I'm not catering to anyone or anything but getting Ron Paul elected. All I said was that it is highly wrong to call 'Mexicans' ignorant; it is a major turnoff to a major voting bloc. I'm not assessing the merits of having a debate in Spanish; there was one, Ron Paul was invited, and so we are talking about it. That is the extent of my commentary.

None of us want the NAU and I bet 99.999999% of Paulites oppose it, regardless of their race or ethnicity. And I agree that we should lift the ban on Western European immigration; I think I brought up this issue in a previous post when my French Aunt was threatened by then-INS with deportation if she married my Uncle in Paris.

I am very proud of my Scottish, Austro-German, and French heritage. I try to support the English language by learning new words and improving my grammar. I try to honor it by knowing these nations' histories, not by attacking other groups.

The goal here is to get Dr. Paul in office. Latinos in general and those of Mexican descent in particular are voting blocs in which we should win. By and large Christian, hardworking, family oriented...why shouldn't Ron Paul win over such folks?

We are ALL on the same team. Whether we are Norwegians 'welcoming' Al Gore with Ron Paul signs (btw that was pretty awesome) or of Mexican descent. I don't care if you are fucking Romulan and have pointed ears. If you love liberty, you are on the team.

What happened here? I've seen references to Romulans and Klingons here for the first time in the last 15 minutes.

What the hell is going on??? Lol! I have no idea what anyone is saying... Is Ron Paul getting boo'd or cheered?

Both. When he said he'd have relations with Chavez and Castro, most of the crowd decided it was the end of the world. But, we tried our hardest to drown it out.

He then got boo'ed for saying he'd talk to Chavez and trade with Cuba.

He then explained himself, and got a mixture of cheers and boos.

And John McCain was laughing disgracefully the whole time.

McCain laughing disgracefully, eh? Glad to hear it ! My guess is that the average American did not tune into this debate. This little personal debate between Paul and McCain will get played up in the next english-speaking debate. The next debate will be important, as 12/12 in Iowa may be the last republican debate of 07. Those who have no previous exposure to McCain's disgraceful behavior, nor Ron Paul's integrity, will have an opportunity to see what has been building in this feud between them over foreign policy. It will be a great way for Dr. Paul to get a specific and focused question, and answer it beautifully.

you can't be of Mexican heritage, thats like saying you're of American heritage. If you're mexican you can be native, white, or mesitzo.

Wrong forums.

This is a quote from another member who put this thing into the proper context.
His handle is rg...?? something(sorry forgot the rest)

"There shouldn't be a debate in spanish to begin with. This is being done on purpose to make the NAU transitition easier."

Chill out

I can understand people being unhappy about living under someone like Castro or Chavez, but what do they expect us to do? Look where the Bay of Pigs got us, and who knows how many other operations over the years. Intervening in their affairs will only hurt our long-term interests.

The economic sanctions & embargos against Cuba have netted us nothing and done nothing but hurt the average Cuban. If people want to condemn the island to poverty and living like it was 1960, so be it, but I want no part in it.

People should just shut up instead of sticking their foot further down their throats. I'm starting to wonder about who the hell I'm associating myself with here with all this "ignorant Mexicans" defense. Trust me... there are plenty of Mexicans who can tell the difference between the truth and a lie. We're not just a bunch of dumb brown people who don't get it. Seriously.

So wait a second.. Do you live in Mexico or America? You can only pick one buddy. Being Mexican is a nationality not a ethnicity.

And there is no need to get all grumpy because someone used the "M word".

99% of all white people acknowledge people are equally stupid no matter what race.

I think this thread needs to be closed. It isn't serving any purpose except to cause anger and makes not just those who are posting here look bad, but makes all Ron Paul supporters look bad.

Let's focus on more important things.. such as.. I don't know.. campaigning for Ron Paul?
