Why are you asking? Are you about to get a job or internship?

I'm going to shoot for an internship next summer. probably somewhere in Texas. Texas Public Policy Foundation or Empower Texans maybe, since I live near Austin. I would love to get one my junior year with the Foundation of Economic Education in Atlanta.

Ok there are two types of think tanks, those that attempt to influence governmental policy and those that attempt to educate people. Mises is an example of the latter, Cato is an example of the former.

Regardless, realize that think tanks really don't accomplish much in regards to bringing about change. So if you want front line activist action, a think tank is not the place to go.

That being said, if you really like academia and reading and studying, then think tanks are a great place for that, because that's mostly what they do. They hold lectures, churn out reports and policy recommendations, etc.

I sent my resume to all the free market think tanks. I've always wanted an invisible hand job.

"Paycheck libertarianism" is a disgrace. Don't get sucked into Beltway hell unless you want to sell your soul to the devil.

Actually, it's just me. A tank of one.

But I often can't make it to the meetings.
