Bottom line: The use of military power since 2001 has:

Turned a previously whole and regionally impotent Iraq that balanced Iran into a factory of terrorism and a client of Tehran;
Turned Afghanistan from a country with a two-sided civil war—contained within its own borders—into a dysfunctional state that serves as a magnet for terrorists.
Turned a Libya that suffered internal unrest, but didn’t threaten its neighbors or harbor terrorists, into an “unmitigated failure” featuring a raging civil war, serving as an African beachhead for ISIS and a terrorist breeding ground;
Contributed to the expansion of al-Qaeda into a “franchise” group, spawned a new strain when ISIS was born out of the vacuum created by our Iraq invasion, and seen major terrorist threats explode worldwide;
Joined other nations in battles in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and other areas within Africa whose only result has been the expansion of the threat and the deepening of the suffering of the civil populations.

These continued and deepening failures kill unknown numbers of innocent civilians each year, intensify and spread the hatred many have of America, and incrementally weaken our national security. … http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/the-wholesale-failure-of-american-foreign-policy/

Oops They Did it Again: US 'Misdirected' Drone Strike on Somalia Kills 22 Civilians, Soldiers

In what the US is calling a "misdirected" airstrike, some 22 Somali citizens and soldiers were killed by a US missile fired from a drone intended to take out al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabab militia members. According to the BBC, the airstrike may have been a ruse by one region in Somalia seeking to settle scores with another courtesy of US military might: "Officials in the semi-autonomous region of Galmudug accused neighboring Puntland of misleading the US into believing they had targeted extremists."

Both al-Shabab itself and the Somali military affirmed that there were none of the Islamist militants present in the region at the time of the US airstrike.

The battle between the Somali government and al-Shabab has been ongoing for the last decade, with the US engaged as part of its "Operation Enduring Freedom" for the horn of Africa.

Since 2007, the US has killed upwards of 500 people via drone strikes in Somalia.

Ironically, as the US continues to launch drone attacks against al-Qaeda affiliated rebels in Somalia, it protects, arms, and trains al-Qaeda affiliated Nusra Front rebels in Aleppo, Syria, according to the al-Qaeda commander there.

Russia: U.S. controlling an "international terrorist alliance"

Last Updated Sep 29, 2016 2:02 PM EDT

MOSCOW -- Russian officials accused the U.S. on Thursday of siding with “terrorists” in Syria, in a sign of escalating tensions between Moscow and Washington amid the battle for the northern Syrian city of Aleppo.

U.S. State Department spokesman John Kirby’s warning that the collapse of U.S.-Russian cooperation in Syria could lead to a rise in extremism and potential attacks against Russia drew Moscow’s anger.

The Russian Foreign and Defense Ministries both cast it as U.S. encouragement of terror attacks on Russia.

“We can’t assess those statements as anything else but a call, a directive for action,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Kirby’s statement amounted to “the most frank confession by the U.S. side so far that the whole ‘opposition’ ostensibly fighting a ‘civil war’ in Syria is a U.S.-controlled international terrorist alliance.”

“What makes Kirby’s statement particularly shocking is that the scale of direct U.S. influence on terrorists’ activity is global and reaches as far as Russia,” he said.
